Synopsis
Yo-Kai Watch Jam the Movie: Yo-Kai Academy Y - Can a Cat be a Hero? takes place in an alternate universe from the main Yo-Kai Watch. It follows the story of human children attending Y Academy who possess the traits of the main yo-kai characters. These kids solve mysteries and defeat enemies by transforming into heroes with the use of their YSP watches.
Background
Yo-Kai Watch is originally an RPG video game that first released in 2013. It has since spawned a number of sequel games, a manga, and an anime. The anime adaptation is loosely based on the video games, with each episode usually focusing on one of the many yo-kai creatures found in the games. Five films from the property have been released so far, with Yo-Kai Watch Jam the Movie: Yo-Kai Academy Y - Can a Cat be a Hero? marking the sixth and latest movie. It is scheduled to be released in Japanese theaters in December 2019. It is directed by Shigeharu Takahashi.
Characters
Jinpei Jiba
The main character of the story. With red hair shaped like cat ears, he resembles the yokai Jibanyan. He can transform into a red cat-like sentai hero with his YSP watch. He is a student at Y Academy.
Matarou Tamada
A male protagonist. He has short black hair that comes to a point and round-frame glasses. He is very lucky.
Sandayu Koma
A male protagonist and student at Y Academy. He has blue hair and swirls on his cheeks that make him look like Komasan. He also wears a backpack.
Fubuki Himekawa
A female student at Y Academy. Her blue hair and green eyes make her look like Blizzaria.
Mera Raido
A male student at Y Academy who resembles Blazion. His hair is shaped like red flames and he has a scar on his face under his eye.
Emma Daioji
A female student at Y Academy with long blonde hair. She resembles Emma.
Haruhiko Usumizawa
A male teacher at Y Academy who extremely resembles Whisper. In fact, he looks just like whisper but with human hair.
Bakera
A large red and white creature that looks like a cat. It has great physical strength. It wears a scarf.
Benimaru Kengo
The red and white cat-like hero form of Jinpei Jiba after he uses his YSP watch.
