Synopsis
Saenai Kanojo no Sodatekata, or Saekano for short, is the story of a young man named Tomoya Aki who dreams about making the perfect romance PC game with a dream team of beautiful, creative heroines. The quartet work hard together on the game project, and in doing so deepen their friendships and even something more, specifically with Tomoya-kun. Saenai Kanojo no Sodatekata Fine is a brand new story produced for the series.
Background
Saekano originated as a light novel written by Fumiaki Maruto and illustrated by Kurehito Misaki. Publisher Fujimi Shobo ran 13 volumes of the light novel under Fujimi Fantasia Bunko from 2012 to 2017. The popular series spawned both a manga and an anime adaptation, as well as two spin-off manga. CloverWorks is producing the film, Saekano Fine, which is scheduled to premiere in Japan on Oct. 26, 2019.
Characters
Tomoya Aki (Voiced by: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka)
The male protagonist of the series. Tomoya is a teenage high school student and an unabashed otaku. He is extremely passionate about eroge and dreams of producing the perfect one with the girls of Blessing Software. Tomoya is very hardworking and determined, to the point of going beyond his limited resources to overcome any obstacles faced while producing his game. During the course of the series, this has led to some dramatic confrontations with each girl on the creative team.
Megumi Kato (Voiced by: Kiyono Yasuno)
One day, Tomoya saw a stranger on a slope. She was his complete inspiration, and he felt she was the perfect girlfriend protagonist for his game. However, Tomoya didn’t realize that it was Megumi, a girl in his class who had never made an impact on him. Megumi was enlisted into Blessing Software. Her conversations with Tomoya can often be flat or cold, but she has deeper feelings for him that sometimes surface.
Eriri Spencer Sawamura (Voiced by: Saori Onishi)
Eriri is Tomoya’s childhood friend. The two used to game together. As they grew older, they grew apart and Eriri hid her more otaku tendencies from the public eye. Tomoya finally convinced her to join Blessing Software where she contributed her artistic talents. She gets jealous of the other girls getting close to Tomoya, especially Utaha-senpai!
Utaha Kasumigaoka (Voiced by: Ai Kayano)
Utaha, affectionately referred to as Utaha-senpai by Tomoya, was a best-selling light novel author at a young age when Tomoya discovered her work. Utaha admired how passionate he was about her writing and stories in general but was disappointed when he didn’t recognize her feelings for him. She joined Blessing Software and is the most forward of all the girls with her come-ons to Tomoya, usually teasing Tomoya with the name “Mr. Ethical.”
Michiru Hyodo (Voiced by: Sayuri Yahagi)
Michiru is a guitarist, composer for Blessing Software, and Tomoya’s cousin. The two were born on the same exact day and are so familiar with one another that they don’t mind being alone together in a room. Although it’s hinted that Michiru may have some feelings for Tomoya.
Izumi Hashima (Voiced by: Chinatsu Akasaki)
Izumi is a kouhai of Tomoya’s. He was the one who turned Izumi on to otaku culture. She’s a gifted artist and actually competitive to Eriri’s level.
Iori Hashima (Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara)
Iori is Izumi’s brother, Tomoya’s former best friend, and his current rival. Iori was part of the best-selling circle, Rouge en Rouge. He wanted to compete with Tomoya’s Blessing Software, but he does not hate Tomoya. In fact, he’s actually been helpful to him in the past.
