Synopsis

Tajimi City in Gifu Prefecture is a city famous for its Mino ware pottery with many historical spots and museums. After moving to Tajimi City with her father who decided to leave the business world, Himeno Toyokawa begins attending Oribe Academy, where she introduces herself by showing off a mug made by her late mother. Her classmate Mika seems to be familiar with her mother’s work and introduces her to the pottery club. Fascinated by the smell of clay, which she never experienced before, she decides to try her hand at pottery for the first time and is drawn into the world of pottery.

Background

Let's Make a Mug Too is a manga series that has been serialized online by Planet since 2012 and has been published in 33 online volumes. A second manga series by Osamu Kashiwara titled Let's Make a Mug Too Comicalize! began on Akita Shoten’s Manga Cross manga website in January 2021 and has been published in one collected tankobon volume to date.

The second season of the TV anime adaptation, titled Let's Make a Mug Too: Second Kiln, was announced in June 2021. The series is once again being animated by Nippon Animation, and the main staff will reprise their roles, including Jun Kamiya as director, Naruhisa Arakawa as series composer and scriptwriter, Ayano Yoshioka as character designer and chief animation director, and Tomoki Hasegawa composing the music. The voice actress unit Mug-Mo comprised of Minami Tanaka, Yu Serizawa, Yuki Wakai, and Rina Honnizumi will sing the anime’s opening theme song "Muchu no Saki e," while Aya Uchida will return to sing the ending theme song "Yellow Canary." The anime will premiere in Japan on Oct. 1, 2021 on CBC TV and will broadcast on MBS, Tokyo MX, BS11, and AT-X in the days following.

Characters

Himeno Toyokawa (Voiced by: Minami Tanaka)
The protagonist of the series. She is a first-year student at Oribe Academy and her birthday is Aug. 28. Her mother died when she was young and afterward she and her father moved to Tajimi City in Gifu Prefecture, which was her mother’s hometown. She has an honest and reliable personality and helps her dad with the housework.

Mika Kukuri (Voiced by: Yu Serizawa)
A first-year student at Oribe Academy and Himeno’s classmate. Her birthday is March 4. She is the moodmaker of the pottery club and loves her friends. She also loves small, cute things and gohei mochi. She has two older sisters named Ichika and Nika and a younger brother named Taro.

Naoko Naruse (Voiced by: Yuki Wakai)
A first-year student at Oribe Academy. Her birthday is Oct. 5. Although not a member of the pottery club, she often hangs out in their club room. She loves manga and video games and is also a fan of Himeno’s dad’s coffee. Her parents run a barbershop across the street from Cafe Tokishiro. She lives alone and has an older sister named Madoka who is a college student.

Toko Aoki (Voiced by: Rina Honnizumi)
A second-year student at Oribe Academy and Mika’s childhood friend. Her birthday is May 14. Her grandfather was a famous potter. She has an older brother who ran away from home after graduating high school.

Rio Matsuse (Voiced by: Aya Uchida)
Toko’s self-proclaimed rival. She is single-minded when it comes to things she likes, and she sometimes gets carried away. She is bad at having a poker face.

Himena Tokikawa (Voiced by: Ari Ozawa)
A girl from Mexico who loves ceramics. She meets Himeno and the others while searching for a place to live. She encounters pottery in Tajima and becomes even more fascinated by it. She is very curious and passionate.

Tokishiro Toyokawa (Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa)
Himeno’s 39-year-old dad. He runs Cafe Tikishiro, which he opened after quitting his job and moving to Tajimi City, where he used to live until high school. He is a former baseball player.

Sachie Tokikawa (Voiced by: Rin Mizuhara)
Himena’s mom and Himeno’s grandmom. She is the owner of Cafe Tokishiro. She usually wears a kimono and is a member of the Kimono Association. Before Tokishiro’s arrival, she used to run a general store. She is widowed from her husband Kiyoshi, who was a woodworker.

Mami Koizumi (Voiced by: Mana Ogawa)
The 28-year-old homeroom teacher of Himeno’s class and the pottery club advisor. He doesn't take teaching too seriously and instead spends most of his time playing with Naoko or reading manga.

Mad Deiemon (Voiced by: Aya Uchida)
Pottery that looks like a kappa. It was left in the pottery club room by Mika. It is friends with Kamisama.

Kamisama
Pottery that looks like a kappa and was left outside the pottery club room. It was made by Himeno’s mom and her friends while she was a student there.
