Synopsis
Six years ago, Union was a famous MMORPG. Six years ago, Subaru was the most legendary guild in the game despite the fact that its members were elementary school students. Back then, everything was about spending time together and looking cool while slaying monsters no one else could… Until a boss battle attempt led to the death of one of their members, not just in game, but in real life too. The game was suspended, the guild disbanded, and nothing was the same.
Now, the successor to Union, called Re’Union, has released. Though he was the former leader of Subaru, Haruto has no interest in even learning about it, much less playing it…but he finds himself reluctantly logging in after a friend begs him for help in completing a quest. Thanks to his expertise, Haruto and the others seem to reach the end of the quest, and are confronted with a treasure chest.
When he opens it, however, Haruto is not met with gold or rare items - he’s met with a drowsy and confused Asahi, the same one who died all those years ago. And just like that, Haruto finds himself on a new quest, one to unravel the game’s mysteries and discern the nature of this virtual Asahi.
Anime Adaptation
Written by Noritake Tao and illustrated by Booota, Seven Senses of the Re'Union began as a light novel that was first published in August 2015 and is currently ongoing. The anime adaptation was first announced in September 2017. The opening theme is “360° Hoshi no Orchestra” by the j-pop duo petit milady, while the ending theme is “Starlight” by Erii Yamazaki.
Characters
Haruto Amou (Voiced by: Kengo Takanashi)
Haruto was the leader of Subaru. Before, he was the type of person who could face stressful situations with enthusiasm and confidence. Unfortunately, those traits seemed to disappear from his personality after the death of Asahi. For the last six years, he’s been wholly uninspired, operating as though he were in a fog.
Asahi Kuga (Voiced by: Nichika Ohmori)
Asahi was a member of Subaru. No matter the circumstances, she always had a smile on her face and encouraging words to offer. Though she loved everyone in the group, she was exceptionally fond of Haruto, even going so far as to make a secret promise with him. During the last boss battle that Subaru participated in, she was struck by an attack and died, not just in game but in real life too.
Satsuki Usui (Voiced by: Akari Kitou)
Satsuki was a member of Subaru. Surprisingly, she was once a tomboy. Haruto is always on her mind, though he doesn’t seem to realize it himself. She is also the only one aware that Haruto and Asahi made a secret promise. When she was younger, she had a crush on Haruto, and was deeply jealous of the relationship between him and Asahi.
Takanori Migado (Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa)
Takanori was the vice leader of Subaru. He was the type of person who could remain calm and analytical in chaotic scenarios. He also seemed to have a soft spot for Asahi, as he couldn’t help himself from indulging her in her requests and feeling protective over her. After her death, he began to hate Haruto, blaming him for everything that had happened.
Nozomi Kusaka (Voiced by: Yumiri Hanamori)
Nozomi was a member of Subaru. Her soft-spoken personality gave her an air of fragility. When she was younger, she had a crush on Takanori, though it seems that it was obvious to everyone but him. For the last six years, she’s been working as a model for a journal.
Cline Vivali (Voiced by: Takuma Terashima)
Cline was a member of Subaru. Though everyone else in the group knew each other in real life, Cline was the only member who logged in from another country altogether. Thanks to his wild personality, he was known to act and speak without reservation.
Elicia (Voiced by: Chika Anzai)
Elicia is a mysterious girl who appears again and again before Subaru. It seems that she may know something about what happened with Asahi.
