Synopsis

Yoshida is a 26-year-old salaryman on his way home from the night of drinking after having just been dumped by his one true love when he happens upon a high school girl named Sayu sitting alone on the street. After finding out that she ran away from home and has nowhere else to go, he lets her stay with him in exchange for doing housework. Thus begins the strange life between a runaway high schooler and a rejected salaryman.

Background

Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took In a High School Runaway is a light novel series written by Shimesaba and illustrated by booota that began on Kadokawa's user-generated novel publishing website Kakuyomu in March 2017. It began being published by Kadokawa Shoten under their Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint in February 2018 and has been published in five volumes as of December 2020. A manga adaptation illustrated by Imaru Adachi began serialization in November 2018 in Monthly Shonen Ace and has been released in four tankobon volumes as of November 2020. One Peace Books has licensed the manga for English release in North America. Another manga titled Each Stories and illustrated by Baramatsu Hitomi began being serialized in Shonen Ace Plus in March 2021.

An anime adaptation was by Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko in December 2019. It is being produced by Dream Shift and animated by project No.9 with Manabu Kamikita as director, Deko Akao (Arakawa Under the Bridge, Noragami Aragoto, Snow White with the Red Hair) handling series composition, Takayuki Noguchi (Angel's 3Piece, Queen's Blade 2: The Evil Eye, Ro-Kyu-Bu! SS) handling character designs, and Tomoki Kikuya (Drugstore in Another World: The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist, Nisekoi - False Love, Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs) composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is "Omoide Shiritori" by the eight-member voice actress unit Dialogue+, and the ending theme song is "Plastic Smile" by Kaori Ishihara. The anime will premiere in Japan on April 5, 2021 on Tokyo MX, BS11, and AT-X.

Characters

Yoshida (Voiced by: Kazuyuki Okitsu)
The protagonist. He’s a 26-year-old salaryman who works for an IT company. For five years he has had a major crush on his boss, Airi, whom he considers his one true love, but after confessing his feelings to her she rejected him. After this, he meets Sayu late one night on his way home from a night of heavy drinking to drown his sorrows and begins living with her when he finds out that she is a runaway with nowhere else to go. He is kind and has a straightforward personality. He is into girls with big boobs.

Sayu Ogiwara (Voiced by: Kana Ichinose)
The heroine. She is a high school student who ran away from her home in Hokkaido for certain reasons. She meets Yoshida by chance one night in Tokyo and the two begin living together.

Airi Goto (Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto)
Yoshida’s boss at work. She is two years his senior and has large I-cup breasts. Yoshida confesses his feelings for her, but she turns him down.

Yuzuha Mishima (Voiced by: Kaori Ishihara)
Yoshida’s coworker who adores him. She is popular with older men and is aware of it. She deliberately played dumb at first but ended up falling for Yoshida. She enjoys watching movies and often goes to the theater located near Yoshida’s house.

Hashimoto (Voiced by: Yusuke Kobayashi)
Yoshida’s coworker. He has a friendly personality and becomes Yoshida’s confidant when Sayu begins living with him.

Asami Yuki (Voiced by: Natsumi Kawaida)
The first girl her age that Sayu meets in Tokyo. Despite her gyaru appearance, she is reliable and becomes Sayu’s close friend.
