Background

My Hero Academia is a cross media franchise that began as a manga series written and illustrated by Kohei Horikoshi. Since its debut in July 2014, it has been adapted into spin-off manga, novels, video games, TV anime, an OVA, an ONA, two animated films, and stage musicals.

The fifth season of the TV anime was announced in the 18th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in April 2020 as well as during the final episode of season 4. It is once again being produced by studio BONES with Kenji Nagasaki returning as chief director along with Masahiro Mukai as director, Yousuke Kuroda handling series composition, Hitomi Odashima and Yoshihiko Umakoshi handling character designs, and Yuki Hayashi composing the music. The opening theme song is "No.1" by DISH//, and the ending theme song is "Ashiato" by the peggies. The anime will premiere in Japan on March 27, 2021 and will be streamed overseas through Funimation and Crunchyroll.
