Synopsis
Komichi Akebi is a bright and outgoing girl living in the countryside who just got admitted to the prestigious girls’ school Roubai Private Academy, the alma mater of her favorite idol, Miki Fukumoto. Now her dream of getting to wear the school’s sailor uniform is about to come true!
Background
Akebi's Sailor Uniform is a seinen manga created by Hiro that began serialization on Shueisha’s Tonari no Young Jump webcomic site in August 2016, where it is currently serialized every other month. As of Oct. 19, 2021, nine collected tankobon volumes have been published.
An anime adaptation was announced in March 2021. It is being produced by CloverWorks (Fairy Tale, The Promised Neverland, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai) and features Miyuki Kuroki (Her Blue Sky, The Idolm@ster SideM, The Idolm@ster SideM: 315 Variety Pack! Made In Passion!) as director, with Rino Yamazaki (Darling in the Franxx, Doukyusei -Classmates-, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time) handling series composition and scripts, Megumi Kouno (Fate/Grand Order -Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia-, The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls, Yozakura Quartet -Hoshi no Umi-) handling character designs, Masato Anno (Flying Witch, Little Busters! EX, Prison School) and Taishi Kawakami (Fate/Grand Order Final Singularity - Grand Temple of Time: Solomon, Occultic;Nine, Sword Art Online: Alicization) handling sub-character designs, and Kana Utatane (Mieruko-chan, Monster Girl Doctor, Re-Main) composing the music. The anime will premiere in Japan in January 2022.
Characters
Komichi Akebi (Voiced by: Manatsu Murakami)
The series’ protagonist. She has dreamed of attending the prestigious girls’ school Roubai Private Academy in order to get to wear their sailor uniform. She has a very bright and outgoing personality. Having grown up in the countryside, she lacks common sense and sometimes acts out of character without thinking. She is very athletic and shows great promise in gymnastics, but her personality sometimes causes her to make mistakes. Though she is somewhat childish, she can show a mature side when needed. Her favorite idol is Miki Fukumoto.
Erika Kizaki (Voiced by: Sora Amamiya)
The first classmate that Komichi meets. She is a beautiful girl with a graceful style. She is admired by her classmates for her talent with the violin. Though she has a refined, ladylike air, she longs to enjoy common activities and is a member of the mountaineering club.
Toko Usagihara (Voiced by: Akari Kito)
A classmate of Komichi’s who is a very talkative girl with a lively personality. She knows a lot about her classmates. She lives in the academy’s Mangetsu-ryo dorm and is roommates with Neko. Her parents own a confectionery shop, and due to this, she helps out by making confections every day. Her bakery skills are loved by the students of her dorm, who often request her to make pastries. She is a member of the softball team.
Tomono Kojo (Voiced by: Shion Wakayama)
A classmate of Komichi’s who wears glasses. She begins to get to know Komichi after borrowing a handkerchief from her and begins helping her choose a club to join. She is a member of the literature club, which she has wanted to join since she was a child.
Kei Tanigawa (Voiced by: Akira Sekine)
A classmate of Komichi’s who is a frank and serious girl. She is a gifted student who often ranks first in mock exams. She is the head of the class committee and is relied upon by her classmates and the teachers. Though she never really tried to get to know her classmates before, she begins to change after Komichi compliments her. She is a member of the film research club.
Hitomi Washio (Voiced by: Shizuka Ishigami)
A classmate of Komichi’s who has a mature look. She is usually expressionless and talks in a somewhat masculine tone. She is a member of the volleyball team and is friends with Yasuko.
Riri Minakami (Voiced by: Yui Ishikawa)
A classmate of Komichi’s who has a bob hairstyle and speaks in a Kinki dialect. She enrolled at the academy because she liked the design of the blazer uniform and wanted to wear it. She is a member of the swim team and has participated in national competitions. She isn’t very good at studying.
Hotaru Hiraiwa (Voiced by: Momo Asakura)
A classmate of Komichi’s who has a lovely doll-like appearance.
Riona Shijo (Voiced by: Azusa Tadokoro)
A classmate of Komichi’s who has long hair. She feels inferior due to her looks and envies Komichi. She has been learning to play tennis for the past two years and joins the tennis club after enrolling at the academy.
Neko Kamimoku (Voiced by: Miku Ito)
A girl with long hair and drooping eyes who is classmates with Komichi. She is a habitual napper and often looks sleepy. She is also a sound sleeper and can’t be woken up by any noise once she falls asleep. She lives in the dorm and is roommates with Toko. She is a member of the archery club, and while shooting a bow she takes on a completely different air and demeanor than her normal lazy self.
Ai Tatsumori (Voiced by: Mariya Ise)
A classmate of Komichi’s who has a trademark ponytail and prideful expression. She is the class’ vice president. She attends cram school with Toko, and though Toko thinks she is short-tempered and angry, the two get along well and often joke around with each other.
Ayumi Togeguchi (Voiced by: Shiori Mikami)
A classmate of Komichi’s who has trademark twintails. She seems to be good friends with Hotaru.
Oshizu Hebimori (Voiced by: Mitsuho Kambe)
A classmate of Komichi’s who has trademark twintails.
Yasuko Nawashiro (Voiced by: Kaede Hondo)
A classmate of Komichi’s who has long hair and a beauty mark under her right eye. She lives in the dorm, and Toko occasionally makes her confections. She is a member of the volleyball team.
Mai Togano (Voiced by: Haruka Shiraishi)
A classmate of Komichi’s who has medium length hair.
Minoru Okuma (Voiced by: Konomi Kohara)
A short-haired girl with curly hair who is classmates with Komichi.
