Synopsis

Ensemble Square - a brand new building in the middle of the city where countless people come and go. It’s home to four offices belonging to idols who spend their days singing and dancing. Films starring the Ensemble Square idols have been nominated for the Idol Film Festival (IFF), an annual festival held in New York City, and representative idols are selected to attend. The boys jet off to NYC to attend the festival and reception party, and afterward, head out on the town to see the sights and sounds. But a suspicious shadow is creeping up on them…

Background

Ensemble Stars! is a multimedia idol raising franchise created by Happy Elements which began with a mobile card collecting game for smartphones released in April 2015. In March 2020, the series was rebranded and relaunched under the titled Ensemble Stars!! and to date has spawned several manga and stage play adaptations as well as a TV anime and an upcoming theatrical film.

Ensemble Stars!! Road to Show!! is the franchise’s first theatrical film. It is being animated by david production and features Asami Nakatani as chief director and Masakazu Hishida as director, with Seitaro Kino handling the screenplay, Haruko Iizuka who is credited as animation character designer and chief animation director, and Tatsuya Kato who is composing the music. The film will be released in Japan on March 3, 2022.

Characters

Makoto Yuki (Voiced by: Showtaro Morikubo)
A member of STARMAKER PRODUCTION’s Trickstar. He has experience as a child model and has excellent posing skills. He has a friendly and cheerful personality and wears glasses. He has a bright and charming singing voice and gives thoughtful performances.

Mao Isara (Voiced by: Yuki Kaji)
A member of STARMAKER PRODUCTION’s Trickstar. He has a friendly personality and is good at communicating. He is the student council president of Yumenosaki Private Academy. Though sociable and cheerful, he is prone to getting into trouble. He has a bright and sweet singing voice and gives energetic performances.

Aira Shiratori (Voiced by: Kohei Amasaki)
A member of STARMAKER PRODUCTION’s ALKALOID. He is an idol otaku who loves idols. He has a half-French, half-Japanese mother. He is sociable, cheerful, and brave. He has good common sense and tends to take things in stride. He has a boyish, innocent singing voice and puts on lovely performances.

Mayoi Ayase (Voiced by: Chiharu Shigematsu)
A member of STARMAKER PRODUCTION’s ALKALOID. He’s a perv who likes being vulnerable like a child. Though timid, he sometimes speaks from his heart and can’t ignore those in trouble. He isn’t good at public appearances. He has a deep, jolting singing voice and gives gentle performances.

Nagisa Ran (Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe)
The leader of COSMIC PRODUCTION’s Eden. He has lived a long time separated from the rest of the world and has a detached view. He is also active as a member of Adam along with Ibara Saegusa. Though calm and quiet, he is also considerate and friendly. He has a singing voice that penetrates deep and puts on performances that charm and attract fans.

Hinata Aoi (Voiced by: Soma Saito)
The leader of COSMIC PRODUCTION’s 2wink. He is the older of the Aoi twins and is often found with his brother Yuta. Like Yuta, he has a cheerful and mischievous personality and loves playing tricks on people. Though he runs wild at times, he cares for his brother. He has a warm and energetic singing voice and puts on unusual, free-spirited performances.

Kohaku Okawa (Voiced by: Tasuku Kaito)
A member of COSMIC PRODUCTION’s Crazy:B and a member of Double Face along with Madara Mikejima. He has a hard-working and patient attitude and speaks in a characteristic Kyoto dialect. He has a sharp singing voice and puts on elaborate performances. He has a slightly skewed view of the world and only gets his news from the internet and TV.

Rei Sakuma (Voiced by: Toshiki Masuda)
The leader of Rhythm Link’s UNDEAD. He is a self-proclaimed vampire who is knowledgeable about a variety of topics and hates mornings. He is thoughtful and has a strong sense of camaraderie with his group mates. He dotes on his younger brother Ritsu. He has a lustrous singing voice that draws in crowds, and he puts on gentle yet powerful performances.

Izumi Sena (Voiced by: Masami Ito)
A member of NEW DIMENSION’s Knights. He works as a model in Europe and is also an idol. Though stoic and anxious, he has a caring nature when it comes to those close to him. He has a strong singing voice and puts on beautiful, relaxing performances.

Ritsu Sakuma (Voiced by: Daiki Yamashita)
A member of NEW DIMENSION’s Knights. He is often sleepy during the day and takes naps anywhere he can. He goes at his own relaxed pace, but he thinks quickly and can be harsh at times. He has a sweet whisper-like singing voice and puts on relaxing performances. He is also Rei’s younger brother.
