Synopsis

Set in the present day, the world is in chaos due to an “unprecedented calamity.” Suzushirо Asano is a young man living in Tokyo who has a secret he can’t tell anyone else: though he can’t control it, he has the power to stop time. One day, he meets a girl named Nazuna Hashimoto who has the same power he does. When he learns that Nazuna’s powers are being used against her will to carry out crime, he impulsively decides to help her.

Background

Eien no 831 is an original feature-length animated film being created to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the network WOWOW, which is known for its memorable original anime series including Cowboy Bebop, Shuffle!, and Ergo Proxy, as well as the 2016 Berserk series. The film is being produced by Craftar and directed and written by Kenji Kamiyama, who is well known for such masterpieces as Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. and Eden of the East.

Other staff members include Koichiro Kawano (Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, This Ugly Yet Beautiful World) who is handling character designs, Hiroki Matsuura (Blood Blockade Battlefront, Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans) who is credited as CGI director, Hiroshi Takiguchi (Ajin: Demi-Human (movie trilogy), The Case of Hana & Alice, Weathering With You) as art director, Maki Tajiri (Monster Strike the Movie, Weathering With You, Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions) as technical director, and Go Shiina (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Fate/Grand Order x Himuro no Tenchi: 7-nin no Saikyo Ijin-hen, Today's Menu for Emiya Family) who is composing the music.

The movie’s theme song will be performed by music duo angela and artist KanoeRana will be performing the opening theme song, the titles of which are yet to be announced. The anime will premiere in Japan on Jan. 30, 2022 on WOWOW.

Characters

Suzushirо Asano (Voiced by: Soma Saito)
A young man who works at a newsstand and attends a university in Tokyo. He has an overly serious personality and bears deep trauma from an incident caused by an action he thought would be for the best. Since then, he has gained an ability to stop time that he can’t control.

Nazuna Hashimoto (Voiced by: M.A.O)
A high school girl who has the same power to stop time as Suzuhsiro. Due to both of her parents having passed away, she lives in Tokyo together with her half-brother, Seri. Though she is kind-hearted, she is forced into lending her power to Seri and is unable to stop him from committing crimes since he is her only relative.

Seri Agawa (Voiced by: Kazuyuki Okitsu)
Nazuna’s half-brother and the leader of the criminal gang 831 Front. For some reason, he hates vested interests and carries out unheard of criminal plans in order to get revenge.

Akina (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)
A woman who has followed in her father’s footsteps and manages a newsstand. Despite her appearance, she takes care of her employees and even makes them meals herself.

Muroto (Voiced by: Akio Ohtsuka)
The head clerk of the newsstand. He is an old-timer who has been working at the newsstand since its previous owner, and he takes care of the business on behalf of the current owner, Akina.

Sugoroku (Voiced by: Takatsugu Awazu)
A veteran who has been on a newspaper scholarship for 12 years. He acts as a mentor to Suzushiro and teaches him about the newspaper delivery business.

Older Sakata Brother (Voiced by: Takayuki Kondo)
A twin who works for the top brass of 831 Front. He is in charge of communications fraud and manages the members. He also works with Seri on the side.

Younger Sakata Brother (Voiced by: Ryota Iwasaki)
A twin who works for the top brass of 831 Front. Like his older brother, he is also in charge of communications fraud and manages the members. He also works with Seri on the side.

Donki (Voiced by: Seiichiro Yamashita)
The youngest member of 831 Front and its execution unit. His real name is unknown. He completes any job without hesitation or emotion, no matter how dangerous.

Kyoko Kagami (Voiced by: Rei Igarashi)
The current prime minister of Japan. She becomes the first female prime minister of Japan after succeeding the previous prime minister who resigned in the midst of the “unprecedented calamity.”
