Synopsis

Toka Kuroitsu is a research assistant in the superhuman development department of the evil organization Agastya whose job is to create superhumans strong enough to defeat the organization’s archenemy, the undefeated transforming hero Kenshin Blader. But, for her, the enemy she has to fight at the moment isn’t a hero of justice, it’s going to the superhuman development planning meeting and making a presentation that will be convincing to the executives armed with only a proposal she put together in just 10 minutes! Between tight deadlines, absurd requests from her bosses, last minute spec changes, and keeping within budget, Toka is always swamped!

Background

Miss Kuroitsu From the Monster Development Department is a manga series written and illustrated by Hiroaki Mizusaki that began with a one-shot published online on Flex Comix’s Comic Meteor website in April 2019 before it began serialization in October 2020. As of October 2021, three collected tankobon volumes have been released.

A TV anime adaptation was announced in July 2021 by Flex Comix. It is being animated by Quad and features Hisashi Saito as director, Katsuhiko Takayama as series composer, Kazuya Morimae as character designer, Mahiru Shinya as sub-character designer, and manzo as music composer. The anime’s opening theme song is “Special Force” by AXXX1S, and the ending theme songs are “Aimai Identity” and “Destiny” by Maybe Me. The anime will premiere in Japan on Jan. 8, 2022 during ABC and TV Asahi's ANiMAZiNG!!! programming block.

Characters

Toka Kuroitsu (Voiced by: Kaori Maeda)
Assistant researcher with the evil secret organization Agastya. Aiming for a high-paying position, she is dedicated to her work and has no interest in improving her femininity. She has been trying to develop a superhuman using unconventional thinking, but she has yet to defeat her nemesis, Kenshin Blader.

Wolf Bate (Voiced by: Satomi Amano)
They were originally designed to be a wolf boy, but on the boss’ authority were made to look like a beautiful girl. They have the mentality of a junior high school boy. They are assigned to the development department, where they have to deal with unreasonable requests. They often work closely with Toka, and recenty have begun to take notice of her as a member of the opposite sex.

Professor Sadamaki (Voiced by: Yuichiro Umehara)
He is in charge of Agastya’s development and always wears a lab coat and AR goggles. He has a cool personality but sometimes gets overwhelmed by deadlines. He shows a different side to himself when he takes off his goggles.

Akashic (Voiced by: M.A.O)
The leader of the evil secret organization Agastya. Though she looks and acts like a young girl, she has the strongest abilities of anyone in the organization. She tends to act on the spur of the moment, and one word from her can suddenly change the direction of the organization, which means that Toka and the others are often at the mercy of her whims.

Megistus (Voiced by: Tetsu Inada)
The chief strategist and brains of Agastya. He is charismatic and is the de facto decision maker for the organization. Due to his position, he sometimes disagrees with Toka on the development of superhumans, but he is actually very considerate of his subordinates. In a sense, he is the ideal boss for an evil organization.

Kenji Sadamaki (Voiced by: Takuma Terashima)
The true identity of the hero of justice, Kenshin Blader. He is a young man who works part-time at a bento shop. He has an honest and sincere personality and a burning passion for justice. However, due to his overly serious nature he is completely immune to women. He is the younger brother of Agastya’s Professor Sadamaki.
