The Hulk is a fictional superhero that appears in the American comic books series published by Marvel Comics. He was created with the creative minds of two individuals, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The Hulk made his first appearance in the debut issue of The Incredible Hulk in May 1962. The character is featured as both the green-skinned, muscular humanoid with immeasurable strength and Dr. Robert Bruce Banner, his alter ego. The two exist as two separate entities that are stuck within the same body, and they resent one another greatly. Since his first appearance back in 1962, the Hulk has gained a lot of popularity on many different platforms and is now one of the most iconic characters within superhero pop culture. Hulk Series Story

The story of the Hulk begins with Dr. Robert Bruce Banner, a physicist who is rather weak and emotionally withdrawn. Banner transforms into the Hulk following his accidental exposure to gamma rays while saving the life of Rick Jones. From then on, Banner transforms into the Hulk when subjected to emotional distress, and goes on a rampage. He destroys everything in his path and makes his civilian life highly complicated. Both Hulk and Banner prefer a life of solitude, but they are often joined by others throughout Hulk’s story. He is a co-founder of the superhero team, the Avengers, and often teams up with them in order to fight.

Hulk Series Development

The development of the Hulk was inspired by a few different factors. Stan Lee stated that his main inspiration was a combination of Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. When Jack Kirby was drawing Hulk, he recalled witnessing the strength of a mother lifting a car off of her child. Since his first appearance all those years ago, Hulk has become a very prevalent part of pop culture. He has appeared in several forms of media, including television shows, movies, and video games. The critical reception of the Hulk has been largely positive, with him ranking high in many lists and polls. He even has inspired real-world structures such as theme park attractions.
