Street Fighter Series Story

In the first Street Fighter game, players could play as Ryu, the martial artist who competes in worldwide tournaments. These tournaments spanned a series of countries with 10 different possible opponents. The player proceeds through a series of one-on-one fights, climbing the tournament ladder as they progress. Usually, each match will consist of three rounds in which the player needs to knock out their opponent in under 30 seconds. The purpose of the game as a whole is for Ryu to prove his strength within the tournaments.

Street Fighter Series Development

The first video game in the series, Street Fighter debuted in arcades in 1987. It was produced and directed by Takashi Nishiyama and planned by Hiroshi Matsumoto. Much of the inspiration for the game came from Bruce Lee’s 1973 martial arts film Enter the Dragon. Both centers around an international fighting tournament with a variety of different characters from across the globe. Street Fighter was later ported from the arcade to many home computer systems at the time. Since then, the Street Fighter series has released many more games. The most popular game of the series is Street Fighter II which was released in 1991. This game was the bestselling of the series and is credited with establishing many aspects of one-on-one fighting games.
