OtapediaTrigun - Figures

Trigun, though a short-lived series, is representative of the late 1990s space western anime trend. Despite facing a lukewarm reaction in Japan, the series became a smash hit in the early 2000s abroad. Even for non-fans, Vash the Stampede is one of the most iconic main characters in anime. Most recently, the movie, Trigun: Badlands Rumble, inspired a line of figures, thrilling fans in the US. These figures highlight Vash the Stampede as well as fan-favorite character, Nicholas D. Wolfwood. The best figures from this Badlands line are “Art FXJ Nicholas D. Nicholas D. Wolfwood Statue Trigun Badlands Rumble (ArtFXJ) Figure

The mysterious, gun-toting priest shows his aggressive side in this dynamic figure for the Badlands Rumble film. Taking his “thou shalt not kill” vow as more of a suggestion, this figure includes his heavy cross filled with his massive gun collection. His expression shows Wolfwood’s intensity, with a style reminiscent of the manga art. Along with removable sunglasses, the figure shows a cigarette in his mouth, colored to imply a glowing ember. This level of detail continues to the gun in his hand, retaining the pearl inlay on the handle. The biggest attribute of this figure is the movement. Although non-articulated, it looks as though it will spring to life. It’s a perfect mirror and foil to the matching Vash figure.

Trigun Badlands Rumble Vash the Stampede Renewal Packaging Edition (ArtFXJ) Figure

From the Badlands Rumble movie, this Vash the Stampede figure has a fantastic, fluid motion in the pose that portrays the character’s flexibility. His expression shows a wide grin, reminiscent of his happy, dorky quality. Vash’s iconic outfit, including removable sunglasses and his large red coat, are lovingly sculpted with all button and material detail. While all leather, the variation in resin captures both the shinier quality of the overcoat and the distressed matte boots and pants. The facial detail, with carved and painted details, nails the teal eye color and subtly features his beauty mark and earrings. Most importantly, this figure includes a mini version of the unofficial series mascot, kuroneko-sama.

Trigun Badlands Rumble Vash the Stampede Attack Ver. 1/6 Scale Figure

This figure is modeled after the Trigun: Badlands Rumble movie poster. Vash is crouching atop a pile of dark steel gray rubble, holding out a silver revolver with a smirk on his face. As a model of the movie animation style, the strongest feature of this figure is the painting. Shading and texture are conveyed through delicate brushwork, expertly using a muted color palette. Attention to sculpting still plays an important visual role. The iconic red coat is intricately tattered with raised straps on the back to create an interesting radius. From all angles, fans can appreciate the chaotic representation of the sixty billion double dollar man in full glory.

Trigun Series Story

The Humanoid Typhoon is the most wanted man on planet Gunsmoke. Causing chaos and destruction everywhere he goes earned this dangerous fiend a sixty billion double dollar bounty for his head. Interestingly, the Humanoid Typhoon is actually the donut-loving, dorky pacifist Vash the Stampede. Vash’s travels and the resulting damages flagged the attention of Bernardelli Insurance Society representatives Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson. After meeting Vash, Meryl and Milly learn he’s not the violent force of legend and decides to follow him as risk prevention. Their journey across the wasteland planet uncovers the secrets of Vash’s identity on a quest to make a world that’s “made of love and peace.”

Trigun Series Development

After quitting college, Yasuhiro Nightow submitted the original Trigun story to the magazine Shonen Captain in early 1996. However, the manga ended abruptly facing the magazine's cancellation in 1997. However, later that year, Nightow received an offer from Young King Ours magazine to continue the series. Trigun Maximum began serialization as a continuation two years after the end of the original series. In April 1998, Madhouse Studios produced a 26 episode anime based on the original series. The anime failed to reach a popular status in Japan but garnered a large fan following in the United States following its 2003 release on the Cartoon Network Toonami block. Madhouse announced a subsequent film, Trigun: Badlands Rumble, in 2009 that premiered in 2010 at Sakura Con in Seattle, Washington.
