OtapediaAndroid 17 Dragon Ball Z - Figures

The Android Saga and its predecessor, the Trunks Saga, are some of the most memorable storylines from Dragon Ball Z. Their lasting power, however, comes directly from the characters involved, Future Trunks, and the Androids. Android 17 left a strong impression with viewers as the cool rebel and major threat to humanity. The Android’s enduring popularity brought him back to the series in Dragon Ball Super to fight for Team Universe 7 in the Tournament of Power. Android 17 has had many figures, both standalone and as part of group sets, since his introduction. The best solo Android 17 figures are “Dimension of Dragon Ball Android No. 17,” “Dragon Ball Z Banpresto World Figure Colosseum 2 Vol. 3 Android No. 17,” and “Dragon Ball FighterZ Android Battle Android No. 17.”

Dimension of Dragon Ball Android No. 17 Figure

MegaHouse’s non-articulated Android 17 figure features fully hand-painted details and real cloth clothing. His iconic orange bandanna, however, is still sculpted to retain its pristine form. The rest of the sculpting, less visible under the clothing, is expertly done and seen in the intricacies of 17’s balled fists. While the figure is non-articulated, the head is on a ball joint to allow poses with a turned head, like a cocky 17 smirking over his shoulder at a weak opponent. The figure does include three facial expressions: one serious, one smiling, and the last letting out a shout. Even stationary, when paired with his sister’s MegaHouse figure, the Androids make a threatening impression.

Dragon Ball Z Banpresto World Figure Colosseum 2 Vol. 3 Android No. 17

Android 17 looks determined and terrifying running headlong to his target in this World Figure Colosseum entry from Banpresto. The movement in the pose is incredible. The entire figure is angled forward at a nearly 45-degree angle, conveying a frightening dead sprint. His hair whips back behind him while his clothing similarly follows. His neckerchief wraps back around his neck and his shirt billows out behind him. Even the laces on his shoes appear to bounce off his lightning-fast feet. Smaller details include the irregular line of his hairline for a more natural appearance as well as hatch marks on his worn clothing.

Manufacturer: Banpresto
Specifications: Painted, non-articulated, non-scale PVC & ABS figure

Dragon Ball FighterZ Android Battle Android No. 17 Figure

This figure from Banpresto celebrates Android 17’s addition to the Dragon Ball FighterZ game. In a high-speed action pose, Android 17 runs so fast his feet barely come into contact with his stand. He draws his right hand back and reaches forward with his left for a mega-powerful haymaker punch. The sense of speed and force comes through in the sculpting, particularly with his hair and neckerchief. Both fly back behind the cool faced Android as he prepares to land his devastating blow. His neckerchief flies up just enough to reveal the Red Ribbon RR logo on his chest. More sculpting detail shines in the thick texture of his knitted socks, stretched and gathered around his tucked in pant legs.

About Android 17

Born a human named Lapis, Android 17 and his twin sister became Dr. Gero’s first successful android experiments. When Dr. Gero survived child Goku’s destruction of the Red Ribbon Army, he vowed to one day destroy him and the Earth. Future Trunks travels to the present three years before the arrival of the Androids to prevent the doomsday they bring. Android 17 initially presents as a chaotic anarchist, however, he initially has no personal beliefs and carries out his orders from Dr. Gero. After his sister, Android 18, activates the humanity loving Android 16, Android 17 kills Dr. Gero. His strong sense of identity allowed him to resist Dr. Gero and free himself and his sister from his power. Android 17 reveals that he hates his synthetic components and longs to be natural, missing his days as a human. Over time the Androids become valuable allies to the Dragon Team.

Other Important Dragon Ball Characters

Android 18 is Android 17’s twin sister, born as a human named Lazuli. Android 18 initially started out following Dr. Gero’s orders to exterminate Son Goku, but eventually grew curious about the stasis Android 16. Like her brother, Android 18 is cool and confident but she expresses more of a laid-back and sarcastic demeanor. In Future Trunks’ timeline, her counterpart is a violent sociopath, as she and her brother had been programmed to hate humanity. Since this did not happen in the main timeline, she ends up abandoning her mission to kill Goku and becomes one of his allies. Eventually, she joins the Z Fighters, marrying Goku’s best friend, Krillin. Together they have a daughter named Marron.

Shenron is the eternal dragon connected to Earth’s set of dragon balls. When summoned, Shenron can grant one wish, hence the first series plot to search for the dragon balls. Although good-natured as a species, eternal dragons side neutrally in disputes and will grant the wish of anyone who summons them. Throughout the series, Shenron is summoned numerous times, often to revive characters or entire populations that have died. Krillin attempts to wish Android 17 and Android 18 into humans again, but this goes beyond Shenron’s abilities. Instead, he revives them after Cell’s defeat and removes the bombs from their bodies.
