Synopsis
Though the days are peaceful, there is a secret behind the scenes. DA (Direct Attack) is a secret organization that prevents crimes before they happen. Its female agents are called “Lycoris,” and thanks to them, citizens are able to live normal lives. Chisato Nishikigi is the so-called strongest Lycoris in history, and Takina Inoue is a talented but imperfect Lycoris who works at the coffee shop Lyco-Reco, which is also a base of operations for the Lycoris. The orders they receive range from coffee and sweets to childcare, shopping, teaching Japanese to foreigners, and more, all unbefitting of Lycoris. The free-spirited and optimistic Chisato and the cool and level-headed Takina - this unlikely duo’s crazy days are about to begin!
Background
Lycoris Recoil is an upcoming original TV anime being produced by A-1 Pictures (Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic, Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- Rhyme Anima). It was first announced in December 2021 and marks the directorial debut of Shingo Adachi, who has worked as character designer and chief animation director on series like Working!!! and Sword Art Online. Other staff members include Yusuke Maruyama (Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, O Maidens in Your Savage Season, Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon - The Second Act) as assistant director, Imigimuru (This Art Club Has a Problem!) as character designer, Yumiko Yamamoto (*Genjitsu no Yohane -Sunshine in the Mirror- *, Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls, Sword Art Online: Alicization) as sub-character designer, Kenji Sawada (Eromanga Sensei, Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie, Wataten!: An Angel Flew Down to Me) as the main animator, and Shuhei Mutsuki (How Clumsy You Are, Miss Ueno, I'm Standing on 1,000,000 Lives, The Testament of Sister New Devil) as music composer. The anime’s opening theme song is “ALIVE” by ClariS, and the ending theme song is “Hana no To” by Sayuri. The first three episodes were shown at an advance screening at Toho Cinemas Kinshicho Rakutenchi in June, at which the key visual and a PV featuring the ending theme song were revealed. The anime’s broadcast will premiere in Japan on July 2, 2022 on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, BS11, and other channels.
Characters
Chisato Nishikigi (Voiced by: Chika Anzai)
Chisato is the strongest Lycoris in history. She enjoys solving private cases that DA won’t handle. She is the self-proclaimed poster girl of the coffee shop Lyco-Reco and works with a cheerful attitude.
Takina Inoue (Voiced by: Shion Wakayama)
Takina is an excellent Lycoris who works at the coffee shop Lyco-Reco for some unknown reason. She is logical and dislikes waste, and she is sometimes unsatisfied with Chisato, who doesn’t act like a Lycoris. She wants to be successful in her work at Lyco-Reco.
Mizuki Nakahara (Voiced by: Ami Koshimizu)
Mizuki is a former member of DA’s intelligence department and has known Chisato for a long time. She has a strong desire to get married and became a cafe worker in order to meet someone. Her routine is to have a drink with dinner while reading marriage magazines.
Kurumi (Voiced by: Misaki Kuno)
Kurumi is a runaway girl who visited Lyco-Reco one day. Though she looks young, her age is unknown and she is able to have mature conversations with Mika. She is a bad employee who reluctantly works for lodging and only looks forward to game nights with regular customers after closing time.
Mika (Voiced by: Kosuke Sakaki)
Mika is a former DA training instructor. He is Chisato’s teacher and is like a father to her. Though he is outwardly the owner of Lyco-Reco who devotes himself to making delicious coffee and sweets, behind the scenes he takes on private requests that DA wouldn’t pay attention to.
