Synopsis

When Demon Lord Satan Jacob’s plans to conquer the world of Ente Isla are thwarted by hero Emilia Justina, he and his demon general Alciel escape through a magic gate and find themselves in modern day Tokyo! However, due to magic not existing in the world, they are powerless and forced to act and live as normal human beings. In order to survive, Jacob, now named Sadao Mao, gets a job at a fast food joint while Alciel, now named Shiro Ashiya, begins working as a housekeeper while trying to find a way to regain their magical powers. And they aren’t alone: hero Emilia has come through the gateway as well! Now named Emi Yusa, she works by day at a call center while she tries to track down Jacob and ensure he doesn’t destroy the world. But how’s a powerless, broke part-timer supposed to do that anyway?

Background

The Devil Is a Part-Timer! started as a light novel series written by Satoshi Wagahara and illustrated by 029. The series ran from February 2011 to August 2020 and was published by ASCII Media Works under their Dengeki Bunko imprint in 27 volumes. As of March 2021, the series has more than 3.5 million copies in print. The series has been licensed for English release in North America by Yen Press.

A manga adaptation with artwork by Akio Hiiragi began serialization in Dengeki Daioh magazine in February 2012 and has been published in 19 collected tankobon volumes as of February 2022. A spin-off manga titled The Devil Is a Part-Timer! High School! written by Satoshi Wagahara and illustrated by Kurone Mishima was also serialized in Dengeki Daioh from May 2012 to February 2015 and was released in five volumes. Like the light novel, both manga have been licensed for English release in North America by Yen Press, who published the 18th volume of the main manga in May 2022.

The Devil Is a Part-Timer!! is the upcoming second season of the TV anime adaptation. It was first announced at the Kadokawa Light Novel Expo 2020 event in March 2021 and is being produced by Studio 3Hz. Staff includes Daisuke Tsukushi as director, Masahiro Yokotani as series composer, Yudai Iino as character designer, and Ryosuke Nakanishi as music composer. The anime’s opening theme song is “WITH” by Minami Kuribayashi, and the ending theme song is “Mizukagami no Sekai” by Marina Horiuchi. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 14, 2022 on Tokyo MX and BS11. It will also be streamed in Japan exclusively through Disney+.

Sadao Mao / Demon King Satan (Voiced by: Ryota Ohsaka)
Defeated by the hero, he came to Japan from another world called Ente Isla. While aiming to conquer Japan, he gets a job working part-time at the fast food restaurant MgRonald. He lives in a 60-year-old one-room apartment.

Emi Yusa / Heroine Emilia (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)
She fought against Demon King Satan as a hero in the other world of Ente Isla. She comes to Japan in pursuit of Satan and begins working in a call center to make ends meet. Though only 17 years old, she is able to pass for being 20.

Chiho Sasaki (Voiced by: Nao Toyama)
A second-year high school student who works part-time at the MgRonald location in front of ​​Hatagaya Station together with Sadao. She has feelings for Sadao, who is working hard toward his goal.

Shiro Ashiya / Demon General Alciel (Voiced by: Yuki Ono)
He came to modern day Japan together with Satan and now lives a frugal lifestyle in order to one day return to Ente Isla. He supports Satan as a househusband.

Hanzo Urushihara / Demon General Lucifer (Voiced by: Hiro Shimono)
An assassin sent from Ente Isla to eliminate the Sadao and Emi. However, after a fierce battle, he once again finds himself under the Demon King’s command. He is a reclusive NEET who spends his days on the internet.

Suzuno Kamazuki (Voiced by: Kanae Ito)
She is Sadao’s neighbor who lives in apartment 202 at Villa Rosa Sasazuka. She is the former Chief Inquisitor for the Church of the Divine Creed, the major religion in Ente Isla.

Alas Ramus (Voiced by: Hina Kino)
A mysterious young girl born from an apple. She calls Sadao “Papa” and Emi “Mama.”
