Synopsis

Tom Sawyer Island, a data-managed society where citizens go about their daily lives using the sensory immersion technology Deco to interact with virtual spaces called Hyperverse. On the island, everything is attributed to a Love score, and citizens spend their days accumulating Love. But not all is well on the island, and cases called Zero Phenomenon have begun popping up in which Love scores are voided, and the cause is thought to be the mysterious Phantom Zero! When a girl named Berry meets Hack and his crew who call themselves gh0sts, they form the Yurei Detective Club in order to solve the mystery of the Zero Phenomenon and discover the island’s secrets!

Background

Yurei Deco is an upcoming original TV anime being produced by Science SARU that features Tomohisa Shimoyama as director, with Dai Sato handling series composition and scripts along with Kimiko Ueno, Akira Honma handling character designs, and Kotaro Saito, Mito, and Yebisu303 composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is "1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 LOVE" by Clammbon, and the ending theme song is “Aimuin Love” by Hack'nBerry, a group consisting of Mira Kawakatsu and Anna Nagase. The anime will premiere in Japan in July 2022 and will be streamed through Crunchyroll overseas as part of their summer 2022 lineup.

Characters

Berry (Voiced by: Mira Kawakatsu)
Berry is a girl who gets hype through the amount of Love she gets and who aims to capture Phantom Zero and solve the Zero Phenomenon. She meets Hack and his gh0st crew one day after her Deco malfunctions, and they form the Yurei Detective Club.

Hack (Voiced by: Anna Nagase)
Hack is a genius hacker and a gh0st who talks in a peculiar way. He encounters Berry one day while roaming the city using Deco as camouflage to stay hidden from others.

Finn (Voiced by: Miyu Irino)
Finn is the leader of the Yurei Detective Club and is the developer of a service called SOS, which he can use to create Hyperverse spaces. He is also a top-rate chef.

Hank (Voiced by: Setsuji Satoh)
Hank is the Yurei Detective Club’s engineer who collects junk from all over the island that he uses in his inventions. He is the creator of Finn’s SOS service.

Mister Watson (Voiced by: ?)
Mister Watson is the Yurei Detective Club’s informant. He is a silent man who always wears a cat costume. He enjoys collecting rumors he hears around the island.

Madam 44 (Voiced by: Sayuri Sadaoka)
Though she looks like an ordinary old lady, Madam 44 secretly aids the Yurei Detective Club using her sharp wit. She usually uses Pup as a video terminal to contact Hack and the others.

Smiley (Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya)
Smiley is a girl who always wears a gas mask, making her expression impossible to read.She is rude and has little interest in anything other than accumulating more Love.

World

Tom Sawyer Island
The setting of the series, Tom Sawyer Island is home to a city where residents’ actions are translated into a social credit score called “Love.” Residents of the island are required to wear AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) devices called Deco (Decoration Customizer). Residents’ data is shared collectively in real time using Deco, making the city a safe place to live free from crime and conflict.

Love
Love is a social credit system used by the residents of Tom Sawyer Island that tallies and converts their personal information and data into a score visible to all. Those with high Love are granted expanded Deco functionality and access to a variety of exclusive services.

Deco
Deco, or Decoration Customizer, is an information terminal that every resident of the island is required to have. The system’s data is shared in real-time with the Customer Center.

Customer Center
The Customer Center is the brain center of the island. It is here that the Deco system is managed and various services are provided to those residents with high enough Love. The center also manages residents’ personal information and provides security for the island.

Super Reproduction Space
Super Reproduction Space is a virtual space created by the Deco’s VR function. It is as realistic as real life, with all five senses reproduced, and it is used by the residents of the island for attending school and work instead of traveling to a physical location.

Zero Phenomenon
Zero Phenomenon is a phenomenon in which Love scores are reset to zero. The phenomenon seems to affect all within a certain area and are rumored to be caused by Phantom Zero.
