OtapediaTomura Shigaraki My Hero Academia - Figures

My Hero Academia is a manga and anime from Japan that made its first appearance in a 2014 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. My Hero Academia was an instant hit. Including all of the necessary elements for a successful shonen comic, mixing them up, and cooking up an excellent publication, the manga found itself a massive fan base. The story follows a modern Japanese society - with superheroes and villains. Heroes are people born with a special power called a ‘quirk’. These quirks can be anything from turning invisible to turning into a giant dragon. The heroes are diverse and relatable each with their own struggles and obstacles on the way to becoming a pro hero. On the other hand, some villains seek to do… well, bad stuff. They too are people who were born with quirks but for whatever reason decided to use their powers for bad instead of good. One such character is Tomura Shigaraki, the leader of the ‘league of villains’. One of the most interesting characters in the series, leading the opposition against the heroes. With his unique design, Tomura is a great fit for any My Hero Academia figure collection. Here are a few of the more popular variants that include the “Banpresto Figure Colosseum Vol. 4: Tomura Shigaraki”, “ArtFX J My Hero Academia Tomura Shigaraki” and the “Nendoroid Tomura Shigaraki: Villain's Edition”

My Hero Academia Banpresto Figure Colosseum Vol. 4: Tomura Shigaraki Figure

Painted and non-articulated, left hand stretched out in front quite terrifyingly; his quirk is after all ‘decay’. Decay is the ability to disintegrate whatever the user touches. This quirk makes Tomura one of the most dangerous villains in the series. These are the clothes he wears fairly early in the series. Red tennis shoes, a black shirt, and jeans. His shoes were destroyed later along with a number of his hands.

ArtFX J My Hero Academia Tomura Shigaraki Figure

Tomura’s hands are a striking feature. They’re all the more grotesque when their relevance is known. The hands on his body come from the first people he ever killed, which were his family. When he was young his quirk appeared and without being able to control it, he disintegrated his parents. On his neck is his mother's hand, his grandfather’s on his arms, his grandmother’s on his forearms, his sister’s on his wrist and the others are from people who angered him, leading to their demise. Painted in early costume colors and shaded excellently, Tomura is a dark and frightening sight.

Despite having severed and mummified hands holding onto his face, head and body, Nendoroid Tomura still manages to be somewhat cute—in a villain kind of way. Painted in solid colors and made of ABS and PVC, the small 100mm Nendoroid Tomura is articulated and held up by a clear plastic stand.

About Shigaraki Tomura

Tomura was a child when his quirk accidentally activated and he disintegrated his family members. Suffering abuse at the hands of his anti-hero father, and receiving no support from his other family members, Tomura snapped, resulting in him murdering everyone. Initially remorseful and alone, later Tomura realized that he acted with vengeance for how he was treated. These feelings carried over into adulthood as he is distant from all of his team members except for Kurogiri, All for One (who found him as a lost child), and Kyudai Garaki (who helped raise him). Eventually, he decides his goal is the destruction of society after meeting with Izuku Midoriya and seeing All Might (whom he wanted to kill) retire.

Other Important My Hero Academia characters

After One For All’s defeat at hands of All Might and subsequent arrest, Tomura became the de facto leader of the league of villains. Kurogiri is Tomura’s second in command, followed by Twice and a few less significant but equally loyal members. When Himiko Toga and Dabi were introduced to Tomura he immediately took to disliking them and even tried to use his quirk against Dabi. Things were set straight however and Himiko and Dabi became key members of Tomura’s group. Tomura strongly dislikes All Might and all heroes for that matter.
