RWBY - Figures
RWBY is an American anime series created by Monty Oum with an American video production company, Rooster Teeth Production. The anime series is about 4 main characters, Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long, that train to become warriors called Huntsmen and Huntresses to protect the world from evil monsters called ‘Grimm’. The first season aired on their website in 2013 and the anime became a viral hit when released on YouTube. Although the creator Oum passed away in 2015, the remaining crew continued production to air the second season and onwards. The anime series had also been dubbed in Japanese, broadcasted by Tokyo MX in partnership with Warner Bros in Japan. The series now consists of 8 Volumes as of November 2020 and is popular with anime fans all around the world. In addition to merchandise, RWBY figures are popular among fans. The RWBY Series Story
The story of RWBY revolves around 4 girls or huntresses that defend the world from evil monsters called ‘Grimm’. As ‘Team RWBY’, the main protagonists, Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long meet at the Beacon Academy as they train to become warrior ‘huntresses’. Along the way, they encounter a series of hardships and friendships coloring their journey.
Further down the series, each of the four main characters confronts their inner demons. Ruby faces moral dilemmas challenging her heroic intent. Weiss is forced to reconcile her lineage as the heiress of the Schnee Dust Company. Blake continues to be haunted by her days as part of the White Fang. Yang searches desperately for her disappeared mother. Nonetheless, the team works together to defeat the Grimm and protect the peace of their people.
The RWBY Series Development
The creator of RWBY, Monty Oum is known for incorporating ‘color-coding’ concepts such as character names and design in his projects. Originally, Oum worked on another American comic science fiction web television series called ‘Red vs. Blue’. After this series, creator Burnie Burns gave Oum the opportunity to create his own series. Therefore, along with Miles Luna and Kery Shawcross, Oum began RWBY. Inspired by fairy tales, Oum and character artist Ein Lee created each character to have an associated color that would match with the main characters. Ruby is associated with red. Weiss is associated with white. Blake is associated with black. Lastly, Yang is associated with yellow. Furthermore, each name’s significance is also coordinated to reference fairy tales such as - Weiss Schnee means “snow white” in German.
