Synopsis

Ryoma Takebayashi is a lonely office worker who lived an uneventful life and died one night in his sleep. In the afterlife, he is met by three gods who decide to reincarnate him into another world filled with fantasy and magic as an 8-year-old boy. There, he’ll learn to make friends, learn and hone his abilities, and, maybe together with a little help from the gods, learn who to live an eventful, happy life.

Background

By the Grace of the Gods began as a light novel series by Roy and Ririnra that began serialization in January 2014. The series has spawned a manga adaptation with illustrations by Ranran that is serialized on Square Enix's Manga UP! and Gangan Online websites. An anime adaptation was announced by Hobby Japan in February 2020. The anime is being produced by Maho Film with Takeyuki Yanase directing, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu writing the script, Kaho Deguchi adapting Ririnra’s original character designs to animation, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi composing the music. The anime premiered in Japan on Oct. 4 on Tokyo MX. It will run for 12 episodes, which are being streamed by Funimation.

Ryoma Takebayashi (Voiced by: Azusa Tadokoro (child), Hiroki Yasumoto (adult))
Ryoma is a lonely man who has lived an uneventful life as an office worker before dying in his sleep. Due to being a good person, he earns the grace of the gods and is reincarnated in another world as an 8-year-old boy.

Eliaria (Voiced by: Yuki Kuwahara)
Eliaria is the 11-year-old heir to the Jamil dukedom. She becomes close friends with Ryoma. She possesses great magical power that can rival Ryoma’s but she is unskilled at controlling it.

Reinhart (Voiced by: Daisuke Ono)
Reinhart is Eliaria’s father and the Duke of Jamil. He meets Ryoma in the forest and takes a liking to him, offering him a place to stay.

Elise (Voiced by: Saori Hayami)
Elise is Eliaria’s mother and the Duchess of Jamil. She quickly grows attached to Ryoma after meeting him and begins treating him as if he were her own son.

Reinbach (Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu)
Reinbach is Reinhart’s father and the former Duke of Jamil. He is a well-known monster tamer.

Miya (Voiced by: Marika Kono)
A friendly cat-girl and adventurer, Miya becomes Ryoma’s first client and later his friend.

Welanna (Voiced by: Yuki Hirose)
A wolf-girl adventurer from the beastman tribe who has an exceptional sense of smell, Welanna has known Miya for a long time and used to be in a party with her.

Mizelia (Voiced by: Yuki Takada)
A tiger-girl adventurer from the beastman tribe, Mizelia is skilled at strength and fortification magic. She used to be in a party with Miya.

Cilia (Voiced by: Yui Fukuo)
A rabbit-girl adventurer from the beastman tribe, Cilia specializes in recovery magic and has considerable magic power. She too used to be in a party with Miya.

Worgan (Voiced by: Tetsu Inada)
The master of the Adventurer's Guild's Gimuru branch, Worgan may look tough but he has a friendly personality. He trains Ryoma and helps him become an adventurer.

Gain (Voiced by: Motomu Kiyokawa)
One of the “3 Gods” who reincarnated Ryoma in another world, Gain is the God of Creation. He has the appearance of an old man with a long beard.

Lulutia (Voiced by: Kikuko Inoue)
One of the “3 Gods,” Lulutia is the Goddess of Love and has the appearance of a beautiful woman. She likes sneaking all over the world in search of candy and having tea parties with the other goddesses.

Kufo (Voiced by: Makoto Koichi)
One of the “3 Gods,” Kufo is the God of Life and has the appearance of a young boy. Like his fellow gods, he is curious about the cultures on Earth and often travels secretly around the world to unexplored areas.

Tabuchi (Voiced by: Makoto Furukawa)
Tabuchi was Ryoma’s coworker during his previous life. He is an otaku with a shy personality.
