Synopsis

There exists in the world “Aratama,” strange creatures that threaten humanity, and since ancient times shrine maidens who wield swords have been exorcising them and keeping the world safe. Named “Toji,” these brave young women are government officials who serve as an official unit within the police force and are authorized to carry swords. Five schools have been set up around the country by the government to train Toji and each spring the five schools send their best Toji to compete in a tournament. As the tournament approaches, the girls are hard at work training rigorously to improve their skills.

Background

Katana Maidens: Kizamishi Issen no Tomoshibi is an original video anime based on the Katana Maidens: Toji no Miko multimedia series that adapts Square Enix's smartphone game of the same name. It is being directed by Tomohiro Kamiya with series composition by Aoi Akashiro, character designs by Daisuke Niitsuma, and music by Yukari Hashimoto and Kazuki Yanagawa. The first part of the OVA will premiere in Japan on Oct. 25 on AT-X, with the second part scheduled to air on Nov. 29.

Characters

Mihono Asakura (Voiced by: Himika Akaneya)
A third-year junior high school student at Minoseki Academy, Mihono is a moodmaker with a bright, positive personality. Her okatana is Kashuu Kiyomitsu.

Chie Satouchi (Voiced by: Kaori Ishihara)
A graduate of Osafune Girls' Academy and a first-year student at the National Police Academy, Chie is Mihono’s childhood friend who has an older sister type of personality. Her okatana is Sohayanotsurugi.

Kofuki Shichinosato (Voiced by: Hiromi Igarashi)
Kofuki is a first-year student at Renpu Senior High School. She has a straightforward personality and means what she says. Her okatana are Chatan Nakiri and Niou Kiyotsuna.

Kiyoka Musumi (Voiced by: Akane Fujita)
Kiyoka is a third-year student at Heijou Institute. She has a modest, timid personality but lights up when talking about her favorite things. Her okatana is Renge Fudou Teruhiro.

Mirja Kitora (Voiced by: Manami Numakura)
Mirja is a third-year student at Ayanokouji Martial Arts School. She is half-Japanese and half-Scandanavian. She has excellent situational awareness and is a good leader. She is a sword otaku and loves talking about swords. Her okatana is Jikkyuu Mitsutada.

Yui Yamashiro (Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka)
Yui is a third-year student at Ayanokouji Martial Arts School. Friendly and communicative, she is able to get along with just about anyone. Her okatana is Hotarumaru.

Hirona Nitta (Voiced by: Maki Kawase)
Hirona is a third-year student at Osafune Girls' Academy. She believes in living efficiently and only devoting energy to things that really matter. Her okatana is Mizuguchi Rapier.
