Synopsis

One day, an enemy called “Pillar” appears in the skies about Earth and humanity finds itself under attack. Suddenly, the god Odin appears and gives humanity a way to fight back: young females called Valkyries who pilot special, magically-enhanced planes called Hero Wings. One such Valkyrie is Claudia Braford, an ace German pilot who is transferred to a Japanese air base to help them fight back after a Pillar appears above Mt. Fuji. There, she befriends a trio of Japanese Valkyrie as they fight to save humanity as the end of the world, Ragnarok, approaches.

Background

Warlords of Sigrdrifa is an original anime series produced by Aniplex and A-1 Pictures. The series has been adapted into to light novels (Warlords of Sigrdrifa: Rusalka and Warlords of Sigrdrifa: Sakura) and two manga (Warlords of Sigrdrifa: Non-scramble and Warlords of Sigrdrifa: Mad Heroes). The anime is being directed by Hirotaka Tokuda with series composition and scripts by Tappei Nagatsuki, character designs by Takumi Yokota, and music by Shigeo Komori and Hajime Hyakkoku. It was originally scheduled to premiere in July 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The anime officially premiered in Japan on Oct. 3, 2020 on Tokyo MX, BS11, and other channels. It will run for 12 episodes.

Characters

Claudia Braford (Voiced by: Hibiku Yamamura)
Claudia is an 18-year-old ace Valkyrie from Germany who is praised as the "Valkyrie of Salvation." However, due to surviving battles that claim the lives of the rest of her teammates, she calls herself the Grim Reaper. She pilots the Gloster Gladiator Mk. II.

Miyako Muguruma (Voiced by: Nene Hieda)
Miyako is a 17-year-old friendly and energetic Valkyrie stationed at Tateyama Base. Her nickname is Miko. She pilots the Nakajima Ki-44-II Otsu.

Azuzu Komagome (Voiced by: M.A.O)
Azuzu is a 17-year-old Valkyrie stationed at Tateyama Base. She is socially awkward and a bit arrogant due to being a genius inventor and master tactician. She can also be sarcastic and stubborn. Her nickname is Az. She pilots the Heinkel He100D-1.

Sonoka Torai (Voiced by: Sayaka Kikuchi)
Sonoka is a 14-year-old Valkyrie and veteran who joined the war when she was 11. She is the youngest Valkyrie at Tateyama Base. Her nickname is Sono. She pilots the Macchi M.C.72R.

Rusalka Evereska (Voiced by: Ai Kayano)
Rusalka is a 24-year-old Valkyrie who was a soldier before the appearance of the Pillar. She pilots the Spitfire Mk. IX.

Lizbet Crown (Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu)
Lizbet is a 20-year-old Valkyrie with the title of Rossweisse belonging to the Sigrdrifa Corps. She pilots the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6.

Nono Kazuura (Voiced by: Rina Hidaka)
Nono is a 22-year-old operator at Tateyama Base. She has a calm personality and is enthusiastic about her work.

Misato Honjo (Voiced by: Yui Horie)
Misato is a level-headed 25-year-old operator at Tateyama Base. Although she participated in the first Valkyrie selection test, she wasn’t found suitable to become a Valkyrie.

Komachi Mikuri (Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka)
Komachi is a 20-year-old operator at Tateyama Base. She has a spirited personality but can act rashly.

Ichiro Satomi (Voiced by: Hiroaki Hirata)
Ichiro is the commander of Tateyama Base.

Leyli Haltija (Voiced by: Hitomi Ueda)
Leyli is a 20-year-old Valkyrie with the Sigrdrifa Corps. She pilots the Spitfire Mk. IX.

Odin (Voiced by: Akira Kamiya, Yumiri Hanamori (young))
Odin calls himself a god and is the one who gave humanity the Valkyries and their Hero Wings to fight against the Pillar.
