Synopsis

Reina Aharen is a small, quiet girl who is bad at judging the distance between others. Raido is a boy who sits next to her in class who can feel the distance between them. One day, Raido picks up an eraser she drops, and the two suddenly become closer! From way too distant to way too close, Reina is unpredictable. The curtain rises on a teen romantic comedy!

Background

Aharen-san wa Hakarenai began as a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Asato Mizu that has been serialized on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ service since January 2017. As of August 2021, 12 collected tankobon volumes have been published under the Jump Comics+ imprint. In February 2022, the series surpassed 1.1 million copies in print.

A TV anime adaptation was announced in July 2021. It is being produced by Felix Film and features Yasutaka Yamamoto as chief director and Tomoe Makino as director, with Takao Yoshioka handling series composition, Ayumu Hisao and Takao Yoshioka writing the scripts, Yuko Yahiro handling character designs, and monaca and Satoru Kousaki composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is "Hanarenai Kyori" by TrySail, and the ending theme song is "Kyori-Kan" by HaKoniwalily. The anime will premiere in Japan on April 1, 2022 during the Animeism programming block on MBS, TBS, and BS-TBS.

Characters

Reina Aharen (Voiced by: Inori Minase)
Reina is a girl who is bad at measuring the distance between others. One day, Raido, who sits next to her, picks up an eraser she drops, and she becomes interested in him.

Raido (Voiced by: Takuma Terashima)
Raido is a painfully ordinary high school boy. His goal in high school is to make 100 friends. However, ever since enrolling, he has felt a distance between himself and Reina, who sits next to him.

Mitsuki Oshiro (Voiced by: M.A.O)
Mitsuki is a girl who always looks troubled and is always blushing. She is Reina’s childhood friend. She has a complex about being tall and is extremely shy.

Ishikawa (Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara)
Ishikawa is classmates with Reina and Raido. She often hangs out with them both in and out of school and goes with them to festivals. She is childhood friends with Hanako.

Hanako Sato (Voiced by: Tomori Kusunoki)
Hanako is classmates with Reina and Raido. She has a policy of being “normal,” but tends to be pushed around by Reina. She is Ishikawa’s childhood friend.

Tobaru Sensei (Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa)
Tobaru Sensei is a literature teacher at the school that Reina and the others attend. She has narrow eyes and a mean expression. She has a peculiar way of describing things.

Raido's little sister (Voiced by: Rika Nagae)
Raido’s little sister is a junior high school student. She thinks her brother is a bit strange and wonders whether he’ll be able to make friends.

Miyahira Sensei (Voiced by: Yurie Kozakai)
Miyahira Sensei is a homeroom teacher and PE teacher at the school that Reina and the others attend. She calls Tobaru Sensei “To-chan” and they often go out for dinner together.

Futaba (Voiced by: Maria Sashide)
Futaba is an elementary school student who likes Atsushi. She sees Reina, whom Atsushi admires, as her rival and challenges her to various games.

Atsushi (Voiced by: Natsumi Fujiwara)
Atsushi is an elementary school student who is infatuated with Reina. He is childhood friends with Futaba.
