Synopsis

Leon is a working adult who is reincarnated into an otome game that takes place in a world of swords and magic. Aside from the Prince's Entourage, a group of handsome guys led by the crown prince, who is himself a capture target in the game, the world is completely female-dominated. Though oppressed and in despair, Leon has one weapon at his disposal: knowledge of the game which he gleaned from being forced by his little sister to complete it in his previous life. Aiming to live a carefree life in the countryside as a mobster, Leon uses his knowledge of the game to unexpectedly start a revolt against the game’s irresponsible women and their army of handsome guys!

Background

Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs began as a Japanese light novel series written by Yomu Mishima and illustrated by Monda that was originally published on the user-generated self-publishing site Shosetsuka ni Naro beginning in October 2017. Its run on the site concluded in October 2019 after 176 chapters. In May 2018, it was picked up by Micro Magazine, who began publishing it under their GC Novels imprint. As of November 2021, nine volumes have been published. The series was ranked eighth in the tankobon category of Kono Light Novel ga Sugui! 2020.

A manga adaptation of the series by Jun Shiosato began serialization by Fujimi Shobo in October 2018 under their Dragon Comics Age imprint and has been published in seven collected tankobon volumes as of January 2022. Both the light novel and manga are being released in English by Seven Seas Entertainment.

A TV anime adaptation was announced in November 2021. It is being produced by ENGI and features Kazuya Miura and Shinichi Fukumoto jointly directing, with Kenta Ihara handling series composition and Masahiko Suzuki handling character designs. The anime’s opening theme song is “Silent Minority” by Kashitaro Ito, and the ending theme song is “selfish” by Riko Azuna. The anime will premiere in Japan in April 2022.

Leon Fou Bartfort (Voiced by: Takeo Otsuka)
Leon is the third son of an unimportant baron in the countryside. Though a curmudgeon who is highly skilled at agitating others, at heart he is kind. In truth, he was reincarnated into the world of a game he used to play and is struggling to lead an ordinary mobster life in a female-dominated otome game world.

Olivia (Voiced by: Kana Ichinose)
Olivia is a commoner from the countryside who was approved for special enrollment in an aristocratic academy. She is strong-willed and has a simple charm. She is one of only a handful of people who can use healing magic, which she is extremely talented at. She is the main character of the game and is at the center of the love interests.

Angelica Rapha Redgrave (Voiced by: Fairouz Ai)
Angelica is the fiancee of the crown prince and the noble daughter of the duke, who is second in power to the royal family. She is a sincere and stubborn woman who hates crooked behavior. In the game, she is a villainess who torments the main character.

Marie Fou Lafan (Voiced by: Ayane Sakura)
Marie is the noble daughter of the viscount. Contrary to her sweet appearance and behavior, she is a villainess who is dating several men at the same time. She is a mysterious character who tries to take Olivia’s place as the main character of the otome game.

Julius Rapha Holfort (Voiced by: Kenichi Suzumura)
Julius is the crown prince of Holfort Kingdom. Sick of his current position, he falls in love with Marie, who understands him. He is one of the capture targets in the game.

Jilk Fia Marmoria (Voiced by: Kousuke Toriumi)
Jilk is a nobleman of the royal court and the crown prince’s foster brother. He has a gentle air and is very popular with girls due to his sensible attitude, but he can also resort to ruthless measures for the crown prince. He is one of the capture targets in the game.

Brad Fou Field (Voiced by: Shinnosuke Tachibana)
Brad is the heir to a wealthy border count who owns a large estate. Though the smart, strategist type, he is a narcissistic, selfish snowflake. He is one of the capture targets in the game.

Chris Fia Arclight (Voiced by: Koji Yusa)
Chris is a count’s heir whose father is a renowned figure known for being a master swordsman. He is a skilled swordsman himself and has little concern for anything else. He is one of the capture targets in the game.

Greg Fou Seberg (Voiced by: Nobuyuki Hiyama)
Greg is the heir to a count and is active as a skilled adventurer. He looks down on other nobles who lack combat experience and often fights with Chris. He is one of the capture targets in the game.
