OtapediaBulma - Dragon Ball

Bulma is the daughter of Dr. Briefs and his wife. She has a genius-level intellect and, even from a young age, skipped school because she found it boring. Bulma can be caring and will do her best to help and protect her friends, however, she is also very headstrong and will do whatever she must to see her task through. She is one of Son Goku’s first friends to meet in the start of the Dragon Ball franchise. She is responsible for many of the devices the Z Fighters use throughout their adventures including the dragon radar, time machines and even fixing Android 16.

Appearances in Dragon Ball

In Dragon Ball, Bulma made her first appearance in the very first issue of Dragon Ball as a young girl driving a car searching for the Dragon Balls. She is in search of the Dragon Balls in order to wish for the perfect boyfriend. When she encountered Goku, he thought her car was a monster and tried to defeat it with his Power Pole. Bulma befriends the little Goku and he shows her the four-star Dragon Ball, which is a memento of his grandfather (Grandpa Gohan). She persuades him to come with her and, when they collect the other Dragon Balls, hoped to take the four-star Dragon Ball from him and use it before he notices. The two are attacked by the shape-shifting Oolong. He is easily defeated by Goku and joins the team. After this, Yamcha attacks and seems to have the upper hand but is weak at the sight of women and is knocked out when he sees Bulma. She is later turned into a carrot by Boss Rabbit though, forcing Yamcha to join the fight and save her. At one point after saving Turtle and taking him to the beach, Bulma, Goku, and Oolong wait for Turtle to come back with Master Roshi. The night before though, the naive, sheltered Goku takes off her underwear because he didn’t understand the difference between a man and a woman. Afterwards, not realizing what Goku had done, she agrees to flash her underwear to Roshi in exchange for the three-star Dragon Ball. Later, when Yamcha is fighting an invisible man, she is brought to the battleground with Roshi and flashes her chest to cover the invisible man with Roshi’s nose blood. After the Evil King Piccolo is defeated and Goku wins against [Piccolo Jr.(/otapedia/anime/dragon_ball/piccolo)] at the World Martial Arts tournament, she settles down with Yamcha.

Appearances in Dragon Ball Z

In Dragon Ball Z, Bulma is living at Capsule Corporation with her parents and Yamcha now. The two are still dating on and off. Bulma is distraught at hearing of Yamcha’s death during the fight with the Saibamen. She heads to Namek with Gohan and Krillin to find the Dragon Balls and wish back all of the people who were killed by the Saiyan attack on Earth, including her beloved Yamcha. She finds herself in all kinds of perilous situations. For example, Captain Ginyu swaps bodies with a Namekian frog during his fight with Goku and Vegeta and comes across Bulma. She builds a device allowing him to talk, unknowingly allowing him to use his body swap attack on her. She is thrown in front of his body change attack by Gohan, however, and returns to her original body. Bulma is quick to fall for handsome guys and Zarbon was no exception. While on Namek, she was afraid of Vegeta and disliked his cruel and aggressive nature, but after being wished back to Earth, her feelings gradually changed and they ended up living together and having a son called Trunks. During the Android saga, she helps out by creating a deactivation switch (that Krillin smashes) and by repairing Android 16. Repairing Android 16, while a good thing, also proved to be quite unfortunate, as she removed his self-destruct bomb that he planned to use against Perfect Cell ultimately resulting in 16’s demise. She is killed along with everyone else during the battle against Majin Buu but is revived with the Dragon Balls.

Appearances in Dragon Ball Super

In Dragon Ball Super, at her birthday party Beerus decides to come in search of the Super Saiyan God. She is at first indifferent to Beerus and Whis joining but becomes irritated by the commotion and eventually slaps Beerus. Beerus then returns the slap which triggers Vegeta’s rage mode. When Trunks comes to warm the Z Fighters of Goku Black, she designs and builds another time machine for Goku and Vegeta to go help Trunks in the future timeline. She promises to pay 100 million Zeni to all participants of Universe 7 if they win.

Appearances in Dragon Ball GT

In Dragon Ball GT, Bulma builds the spaceship the team uses to gather the Black Star Dragon Balls. Bulma, after being possessed by Baby, she uses the Super Blutz wave generator to help Baby reach Great Ape form. After being freed from Baby’s control, she later uses the Super Blutz wave generator to push Vegeta into his Great Ape form, and thus Super Saiyan 4, during the final fight with Omega Shenron. She watches Goku defeat Omega Shenron. After the fight is over, she reminisces about her first meeting with Goku as a teenager and reflects on how she will miss him when he is gone.
