OtapediaDerivative Dragon Ball Fusion Characters - Dragon Ball

Fusion refers to a number of various methods of two characters combining to become a stronger character. There are a number of ways to fuse.

Namekian Fusion

The first type of fusion seen is in Dragon Ball Z’s Namek saga is the Namekian Fusion. This requires two consenting Namekians to agree on who will be the “host” (most likely decided by who is stronger) and who will be “absorbed”. The host will receive the strength, speed, memories and in some cases personality traits of the absorbed party. During Piccolo’s time on Namek he fused with Nail in the hope of defeating Frieza. Nail being a warrior-type Namekian meant a large power boost for Piccolo; enough to handle the second form of Frieza. The second time is during the Android saga when Piccolo must fight against Android 17 and Android 18. He fuses with Kami to essentially become complete again, as Kami is the good half of the Evil King Piccolo of which Piccolo is a clone or copy.

Metamoran Fusion

Metamoran Fusion, also known as the Fusion Dance is a type of fusion taught to Goku in the other world that involves two characters performing a dance to fuse. It was originally thought that the two had to be of roughly similar height and power level, but this was later proven false in a statement from Akira Toriyama himself. The fusion lasts for only 30 minutes after which the characters will unfuse. Unlike other forms of fusion, the Fusion Dance results in the fused characters all wearing the same trademark Metamoran clothing.

The first to use this technique are Goten and Trunks when they form Gotenks to battle with Super Buu. Due to the incredible power increase, Gotenks was able to achieve Super Saiyan 3 after watching Goku transform. After this Gogeta is the next fused character to appear in the series in the movie Fusion Reborn and in Dragon Ball GT as a Super Saiyan 4.

Potara Fusion

Potara Fusion is a type of fusion that requires two potara earrings. The potara earrings are worn by the Supreme Kais. This type of fusion requires no special ritual, only wearing the earrings on opposite ears will bring the characters together in fusion. The difference between potara and metamoran fusion is that while the metamoran fusion has a time limit of 30 minutes, the potara fusion has a time limit of one hour for mortals but is permanent for Kai or divine beings. Another difference is in the clothing and voice of the fused characters. Metamoran fusion results in the fused character wearing typical metamoran clothing whereas the potara fusion fuses the clothes of both characters or keeps the same clothing of one of the characters. Fused characters will speak with both voices concurrently if metamoran and temporarily potara fused, but permanent potara fusions will result in one voice only.

Some examples of potara fusion are Old Kai (when he is young) and Old Witch,
Kibito and Shin become Kibito Kai, Vegeta and Goku form Vegitto, Goku Black and Future Zamasu make Fused Zamasu (which begins to fail because part of the fusion is an immortal and part is mortal), Caulifla and Kale fuse to make Kefla.

Fusion via Absorption

This is less like potara and fusion dance fusion and more akin to the Namekian fusion in that the absorbed party becomes part of the host. The more frequent user of this technique is without a doubt Majin Buu, followed by Cell. While Cell uses his tail and a giant suction cup to suck up Android 17 and Android 18, Majin Buu uses his body to trap and absorb his enemies. When Majin Buu uses this technique he displays physical traits of the characters he has absorbed. For example when he absorbs the South Supreme Kai he gains a huge amount of musculature and when he absorbs Piccolo, Gotenks or Gohan, he absorbs their facial features and parts of their clothes. It seems to be the strongest character he has absorbed that show physically though. As for Cell, his post-absorption form is already decided genetically. This kind of fusion can be undone however as seen when Vegetto was eaten by Buu (himself unfusing inside the magic creature) and released the absorbed people from their cocoons inside Buu’s body. Cell was forced to regurgitate Android 18 when he received a powerful punch to the stomach. Android 13 showed a similar ability however when he used this technique, his comrades had already been destroyed and he merely absorbed their parts, this is similar but in the reverse for Cooler, whose body is absorbed by the Big Gete Star.

Machine Mutant Fusion

Dragon Ball GT gave viewers another type of fusion. This time between the infamous machine mutant characters such as General Rildo, the Sigma Force Machine Mutants and Hell Fighter 17 and Android 17. General Rildo fused with the defeated Sigma Force to become Hyper-Meta Rilldo. Super 17 is the fusion of Android 17 and his machine mutant copy, Hell Fighter 17.

Body / Mind Control

Not exactly a fusion but more a fusion of one character's body and mind and another character's will. As early as the 23rd World Tournament Kami was known to have taken control of a fighter called Chen. More famously however, Babidi exerts his will over the Demon King Dabura and Vegeta with his Majin powers with mind control. Body control is the speciality of Baby in GT. As he enters the body of his enemies and takes full control of their bodies, it could be said that he is in a way, fusing himself with his enemy.
