OtapediaSupporting Dragon Ball Characters - Dragon Ball

Here is a list of some other significant and supporting characters from the Dragon Ball manga and anime series.

Grandpa Gohan

Grandpa Gohan is the forest hermit that finds the infantile Goku and takes him in. He was a student of Master Roshi and a master of the Turtle School of martial arts. He is killed when Goku transforms into Great Ape and stands on Grandpa Gohan accidentally.

Status: Dead. Accidentally crushed by Goku in Great Ape form.

Tao

Tao is the brother of Master Shen of the Crane School. He is a very skilled fighter and works as a mercenary and later as the general in the Red Ribbon army. He defeats Goku once but is then defeated by Goku when his own grenade is kicked back at him. He returns, however, as a cyborg to seek revenge, but is beaten once again. Instead of flying, Tao seems to prefer kicking a log into the sky and riding on it.

Status: Presumably dead. After working with gangsters and other evil organizations, it’s likely he wasn’t resurrected with everyone else.

Evil King Piccolo

Evil King Piccolo is a part of a Namekian warrior that came to Earth a long time ago. He originally split himself into two, removing the evil part of himself, which became Evil King Piccolo. In exchange, the other half became the protector of Earth known as ‘Kami’. Evil King Piccolo is killed when Goku flies into the air with a Kamehameha and headbutts a hole through King Piccolo’s chest. In the throes of death, King Piccolo creates a clone of himself as an egg and launches it into the distance. This egg then becomes Piccolo Jr., though simply comes to be known as Piccolo in Dragon Ball Z.

Status: Dead (living on through Piccolo).

Oolong

Oolong is a shape-shifting Pig. He is cowardly, perverted, and often uses his shapeshifting powers to trick people into giving him what he wants. His disguises don’t work on Goku, however, and is defeated by him easily. He uses the Dragon Balls to make a wish for a pair of women’s underwear.

Status: Living at Master Roshi’s house.

Puar

Puar is a shapeshifter, much like Oolong. It is often said that they know each other and graduated from the same school of shape-shifting. Puar is deeply loyal and very close to Yamcha. When the team is captured by Emperor Pilaf and Goku transforms into his Great Ape form, Puar turns into a giant pair of scissors and cuts off his tail, reverting him to normal and saving everyone’s lives.

Status: Living with Yamcha.

Ox-King

Ox-King is the father of Chi-Chi, Goku’s wife. He is the king of Fire Mountain, but couldn’t access his home for some time due to a fire that was set on the mountain. It was eventually extinguished by a full power Kamehameha by Master Roshi. He is exceedingly rich and more than likely supports Chi-Chi financially, seeing as Goku is often either training or dead.

Status: Alive and living on Fire Mountain.

Chiaotzu

Chiaotzu is Tien’s best friend and lifelong companion. The two are always together unless Tien deems the situation too dangerous and leaves Chiaotzu behind. They are both students of the Crane School of martial arts under Master Shen. During a World Tournament, Master Shen tried to kill Chiaotzu for Tien’s insubordination. Chiaotzu was killed during the fight with Nappa by self-destructing, though he was later brought back to life with the Dragon Balls.

Status: Alive and living with Tien.

Dr. Briefs

Dr. Briefs is Bulma’s father. He is always seen smoking a crooked cigarette and has a small pet animal on his shoulder. He has a genius-level intellect and builds many different contraptions like spaceships used to travel to Namek and gravity chambers for Goku and Vegeta to train in. With his incredible intellect, he founded the Capsule Corporation.

Status: Alive and still living at Capsule Corporation.

Yajirobe

Yajirobe was said to be one of the strongest humans early on in the series but was gradually left behind by the other fighters, as he never trains. He lives with Korin in his tower and helps out by growing senzu beans. During the fight with Vegeta, he came in very handy, as he managed to cut off Vegeta’s tail when he was transformed into a Great Ape, causing him to revert back into his humanoid form.

Status: Alive and living with Korin.

Kami

Kami is the good side of the unnamed ancient Namekian who came to Earth ages ago. When the unnamed Namekian separated the evil part of himself from the good, the Evil King Piccolo and Kami were both born. Kami went on to become the protector of Earth on his lookout with Mr. Popo at his side. He takes part in one of the World Martial Arts tournaments disguised as a martial artist called Shen. During the Cell Saga, he fuses with Piccolo, returning them to their original power (plus another Namekian named Nail, who Piccolo fused with on Namek).

Status: Fused with Piccolo to fight Android 17 and Cell.

Fortuneteller Baba

Fortuneteller Baba is Master Roshi’s sister. She appears from time to time, often dealing with matters of the supernatural. She is seen at Master Roshi’s home watching the events of the battle involving the Saibamen and Nappa on her crystal ball. She also helps the Z Fighters by reviving Goku for one day during the Majin Buu saga. Goku also asks her to bring Frieza back from the dead for a day during the Tournament of Power saga.

Status: Alive
