Who Was Artoria Pendragon?

Also known as Arthur Pendragon, King Arthur, or King of Knights, Artoria Pendragon was the king of Britain. She lived her life disguised as a man even to the extent of marrying a woman, Guinevere, to keep up the act and obligation of a king. She was the daughter of the King of Britain Urther Pendragon and the wife of one of his servants, the Duke of Cornwall. However, she was raised as a common knight by Sir Ector. She became king by being able to pull the sword Caliburn from the stone with no struggle when no one else could and it being prophesied that whoever could pull it was to be the king. She led Britain from Camelot and had several close knights by her side, including Lancelot, called the Knights of the Round Table. When Lancelot had an affair with her wife, Artoria understood given that her marriage was a farce. She forgave them both and gave them her blessing, but Lancelot could never forgive himself. While she fighted along her country's borders, Britain was destroyed through civil unrest. She was killed by traitor Mordred. Her wish for the Holy Grail was to change the fate of Britain so it would never fall into the ruin that it did.

Appearance

Since each of her alternate versions have differences in their appearances (mostly their outfits) explained here will be her most well known appearance. She is fair skinned, with green eyes, blonde hair, a slim physique, and youthful young adult appearance. She looks young because she stopped ageing at the age of 18 when she pulled the sword Caliburn from the stone. She is elegant, graceful, and carries herself confidently. She often wears a long sleeve, puffed shoulder, high neck, royal blue dress with a white bodice and lots of volume at the bottom which also has a white fabric layer detailed with gold that peeks out. Atop it she wears chest armor and armor at her sides as well as over her hands and forearms. The armor ties at her waist. Usually her hair is kept back in a braided bun with a ribbon tied into a bow that matches her dress except for shorter pieces that frame her face. She does have an ahoge (or portion of hair that sticks up and out from her head). She also has a variety of casual outfits because of her inability to dematerialize. Most notably is her all black suit complete with a tie which she wears with her hair in a low ponytail.

Personality

Saber has been said to not understand human emotion. She cast it all aside when she became more like a god and less like a human when she pulled the sword Caliburn from the stone. She cares about justice, honor, and for her country. She sacrificed herself and her pleasures for Britain. Though an incredible swordswoman, she was humble. He trust was strong in those she kept close to her such as the Knights of the Round Table. In her heart was a lot of guilt over the fall of Britain and doubt in herself over wondering what she could have done differently and what she had done wrong especially after Rider insults her for her ways as a king and she finds out Lancelot went mad because of her.
