Background
Frankenstein, also known as Frankenstein’s Monster, is an artificial lifeform brought to life by the scientist Victor Frankenstein in a fictional novel by Mary Shelley. Inspired by the Bible, Victor wanted to bring to life a new Adam and Eve, an ideal couple. The first creature he created would be Eve. Victor built this female creature with the body parts of several dead people stitched together and gave it life energy by harnessing the power of lightning. But instead of bringing to life the ideal woman, Victor created a monster with an infant’s mind, lacking a human sense of morality against murder. Victor considered Fran as a failed experiment and disassembled her, believing that ended her life. But even disassembled, she was still alive. Eventually, she was able to put herself together. No longer tethered to her master, Victor, she matured and developed both emotions and feelings.
Fran eventually found Victor and begged him to make a companion for her. Victor refused, not wanting to create what he believed would be another monster like Fran. Although she asked over and over again, he refused every time. Fran felt no choice but to cause the Victor Frankenstein pain until he relented. She did this not by physically harming Victor, but by killing people he knew and loved, including his fiancée. Victor did not relent and escaped to the South Pole and fell into madness. After he died, Fran burned herself alive.

Frankenstein has several aliases in the Fate series, including “Innocent Bride,” “Rider of Black,” “Fran,” and “Frankenstein’s Monster.”
Role*
Frankenstein is summoned to take part in the Great Holy Grail War by her Master, Caules Forvedge Yggdmillennia. She is Berserker of Black. While she can comprehend speech, she herself can not speak much, just as in her legend when she was first born. She mostly speaks in grunts and moans. Her one wish of the Grail is to have a mate for herself. During the war, she eventually fights Saber of Red and is outmatched. Trying to take Saber of Red down, she unleashes her Noble Phantasm, Blasted Tree, sacrificing her life to do so. Afterwards, part of Berserker of Black is attached to Sieg so that he may use a version of Blasted Tree as well.
Appearance*
Frankenstein has the appearance of a young girl with orange hair that typically covers her eyes. She wears a white dress that looks like a bridal gown, along with a black veil. On her arms, Frankenstein wears long sleeve white gloves. She has giant golden bolts on both sides of her head and a golden horn in the middle of her head that is reminiscent of a unicorn’s horn.
As a Saber-class Servant in the summer Fate/Grand Order event, Saber Fran’s hair is tied up into two buns. She wears a two piece light blue bikini. On one arm, she wears a loose pink sleeve that covers her hand. The other arm is in white bandages. One of her legs is also dressed in bandages, but these look more like ballet dancer wraps. In her 2nd Ascension, the light blue bikini is replaced with a makeshift dress made of bandages that exposes most of her body.
Personality*
Because of the trauma she experienced in life, Frankenstein tends to be shy and hide her high intelligence. Due to Madness Enhancement, she can only speak in grunts usually. She gets along well with her Master, Caules. She wants a mate because that will help her be more human, but she does not think the Yggdmillennia homunculi are worthy to fill this position. She likes picking flowers and conserving electricity. Conversely, she hates wasting electricity.
Abilities
Although possessing Mad Enhancement, she is not as mindless in battle as one would expect. Because of her Berserker class, she is tough and agile in close quarters combat. She faithfully listens to the commands of her Master.
Noble Phantasms
・Bridal Chest: Anti-Unit class. Also known as A Maiden's Chastity. This is a weapon with a giant orb at its end that can discharge electricity as blasts, at will. The orb is filled with Frankenstein’s Reactor Core.
・Blasted Tree: Anti-Army class. Also known as The Lightning Tree of Crucifixion. During this attack, Frankenstein strikes the ground with Bridal Chest, creating a lightning storm. The electricity looks like a tree with thousands of branches. It affects an area and homes in on enemies.

Frankenstein appears in the Playstation Vita side-game in Fate/hollow ataraxia called Capsule Servant, the gag manga Type-Moon Academy Chibichuki!, the anime Fate/Apocrypha, and the mobile RPG game Fate/Grand Order.
