Background

Merlin is a half incubus and half human magus. He is part of Arthurian Legends having had an influence on King Arthur becoming stronger through his guidance and troublemaking. From a young age he shared many prophecies. He was a part of King Arthur’s life since she was born and also prophesied about her. Merlin didn’t care that her sex was female and still believe sh could become the next king. Though she was raised by the king’s vassal Sir Ector, Merlin also still played a part in her life. Merlin was also the one who warned her of what was to come if she pulled the sword from the stone, though she still did so without hesitation. Merlin also helped her have a child with her female wife through magecraft. He however possessing near flawless and limitless clairvoyance, didn’t tell her of Lancelot’s betrayal. He is said to have transcended death and is forever imprisoned in the Garden of Avalon.

Appearance:

Merlin is a male. He is 178 cm and weighs 67 kg. There is also a female version of Merlin in Fate/Prototype. This description will be of his male appearance. He has the ability to shapeshift so even if this is how he appears most often it is not known if it is his true form. He is attractive. Some would say he has the appearance of a young prince. He wears a white robe that has a hood and cape like covering over his shoulders with a lilac triangle trim. His long hair is colored a pale white and lilac. He has bangs. It is also adorned with a flower. He has violet eyes. His outfit is quite intricate. It has multiple layers with colors of pink, purple, royal blue, and light blue as well as rope work including a golden knot on the front. Beneath is a black turtleneck. He also wears loose, billowy black pants with a golden design on them that extends past the knee. He has a confident smile. He carries a staff which has ribbons attached to it. The character illustrator is Taiki.

Personality:

Merlin’s alignment is Lawful Good. Despite being a top-tier magus, he sometimes messes up his incantations so he is known to also fight with a sword when he doesn’t have to cast one and would rather reduce the changes he stumbles on his words. Yet, he still boasts of his genuinely great magus capabilities. He has a laid back personality that relaxes those around him. He enjoys humans, especially women. He is also fond of mischief. Despite his interest in humans, he never comes as far as to befriend, forever feeling somewhat alien amongst them because of being half incubus. He prefers to watch over them and the world.

Abilities:

Merlin is an incredible magus (Grand Caster rank) though he does sometimes stumble on his incantations thus he occasionally decides just to fight with a sword. He was actually a teacher of swordsmanship for King Arthur. He also has the ability Clairvoyance. Additional skills of his include Independent Manifestation and Illusionism. Independent Manifestations basically allows him to be summoned as a servant, though not really cause he never died to become a Heroic spirit, but close enough. He is so good at illusion (Rank A) he’d easily be able to make an entire illusionary town that would trick humans. His Noble Phantasm is the Anti-Unit Garden of Avalon: The Forever-Sealed Utopia which grants HP recovery for the party for 5 turns and charges the NP gauge by 5% for 5 turns in Fate/Grand Order.

What Fate series does Caster Merlin appear in?

Merlin also known as Magus of Flowers appears in Fate/Grand Order, Fate/stay night, Fate/Apocrypha and Garden of Avalon. Depending on the series he appears as a half-human, half-incubus magus. His Japanese voice actors are Takahiro Sakurai, Junichi Suwabe, and Katsuya Kobayashi. His English voice actors are Khoi Dao and Robbie Daymond. In the Grand Order war of Fate/Grand Order his Master was Ritsuka Fujimaru. There is also a female version of Merlin in Fate/Prototype whose Japanese voice actress is Ayako Kawasumi.
