What series is Gilgamesh in?

Gilgamesh is portrayed in Fate/Zero and Fate/stay night as an Archer Servant, in Fate/Extra CCC as a playable Servant, in Fate/strange fake as a False Archer Servant, in Fate/Grand Order as a Caster servant, in Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illyaas the Archer Class Card, in Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! as the eighth Class Card and ally, and in Fate/Prototype as an Archer Servant.

What’s Gilgamesh’s history?

Gilgamesh is 1/3 human and 2/3 god making him a demi-god and extremely powerful. He is said to have possessed all the treasure on Earth becoming the richest king on Earth. Becoming supreme above all kings he earned, and him alone, the title “King of Heroes.” Even the gods took notice of him and his growing overwhelming power and arrogance so they created Enkidu, a monster made of mud with no gender and an androgynous human form. He was a perfect match in power against Gilgamesh and they fought for several days eventually ending in a truce because otherwise they both would have foolishly died. They then become friends. His alignment is Chaotic Good.

Who is Enkidu and why does Gilgamesh care about him so much?

As said above, Enkidu was a monster made of mud by the Gods to punish Gilgamesh for his arrogance. However, after several days of fighting they decide to call a truce and a close friendship forms. His friend unfortunately died when he was unable to disobey an order by the gods to die which was given because he and Gilgamesh together killed the Bull of Heaven sent by Ishtar who was upset by Gilgamesh denying her proposal of marriage. Gilgamesh held onto him until he was nothing more than mud in his arms, but before this Enkidu told him he would find many more treasures and Gilgamesh responded in disagreement that he would not and Enkidu would be the one and only person he would ever call friend. He grieved greatly for his friend.

Personality

Gilgamesh is all about enjoying himself. He doesn’t care to conquer or to reign, but just to collect treasure and take part in the pleasures of the world. He doesn’t care about killing humans as he sees them as just things that are about to die anyways. He also is angry at the gods for sentencing his only friend Enkidu to death. He has a high self worth and looks down on everyone else especially anyone who thinks they are as good as him.

Appearance

Though there are some differences in his appearance depending on what series he is in, he usually appears as a man with spiky blonde hair and red eyes. He has a lean, fit physique with incredibly powerful golden armor and a red cape. He also wears gold earrings.

What are Gilgamesh’s Noble Phantasms?

Gilgamesh’s main Noble Phantasm is the Gate of Babylon. Amongst the many Noble Phantasms that are held within it which he is capable of summoning are Enuma and Ea which he uses only on worthy opponents. He also has Sha Naqba Imuru which grants him clairvoyance. With it he can know the True Name of Servants as well as their Noble Phantasms and is extremely perceptive of magecraft down to seeing through spells and being able to count how many are being prepared. Another Noble Phantasm he has grants him the ability to levitate high into the air.

What is the Gate of Babylon: The King’s Treasure?

The Gate of Babylon is Gilgamesh’s main Noble Phantasm which he first used against Enkidu. At first he was embarrassed to use it because it was never meant to be used as a weapon but he grew to enjoy it for this use. He made it to store all his treasure and is able to call forth all the weapons, including Noble Phantasms, to use against his opponents in battle. It operates using an “invisible door” between dimensions. Gilgamesh can choose how many are summoned from one to thousands as well as direct their aim without touching them. This Noble Phantasm is what makes him the Archer class. They are able to do damage to the terrain or be recalled before hitting it. He can send an endless stream of weapons like the most deadly arrows and do so fight after fighter. The Key of the King’s Law, Bab-ilu is a key-shaped sword that can open any door as long as it has a lock including the Gate of Babylon. One of the shown uses of it includes when he calls for Ea in Fate/Zero to use against Rider. No one else but Gilgamesh can handle the key. The Gate of Babylon holds every treasure on Earth, not just weapons so intellectual properties are also included as was magical artifacts and even food such as the best wine on Earth. It can even hold people within it. He does say that he lacks a few items however, but already claims them as “his treasure,” them being God Hand, Kavacha and Kundala, and Avalon. He can’t always remember all the items he has. It is said Darius I was first able to access the Gate of Babylon with the Door of Babylon Craft Essence after Gilgamesh’s death. A couple more people followed thereafter including Darius III and the contents were spread throughout the world.
