Synopsis
The last year saw major changes for certain parties in Earth Land. First, fueled by the tragic death of his foster father Igneel and the constant battles against the Dark Guild Tartaros, Natsu left to travel the lands with Happy, a renewed determination to become even more powerful lighting his fire.
Even more surprising was the disbandment of the Fairy Tail guild, a command which came from Fairy Tail Master Makarov himself without any explanation or prior notice. Much like Natsu and Happy, Makarov’s location was also kept secret.
During that time, Lucy landed a job as a reporter. Though she was committed to her work, she also decided to use her skills and resources to gather news of her friends as they moved about the continent. Working away with no real plan, Lucy thought her next big assignment at covering the annual Grand Magic Game would go off without a hitch…until Natsu and Happy make a grand appearance and reunite with her once again.
Now, with the revival of Fairy Tail on their minds, Lucy, Natsu, and Happy set out on a new journey to find the rest of their friends and former guildmates to get things back to how they should be.
Background
A fantasy series written by Hiro Mashima, Fairy Tail was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine from August 2006 to July 2017 with 63 volumes. There are two additional related manga series as well: the prequel Fairy Tail Zero, and the sequel Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest.
The TV anime series has been ongoing since October 2009 with over 277 episodes. Aside from a nine-episode OVA, it’s also enjoyed two animated films: Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess and Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry.
Fairy Tail Final Season will premiere on Oct. 7 on TV Tokyo, amongst other stations. Announced in April 2018, the opening theme is “Power of the Dream” by Lol, while the ending theme is “Endless Harmony” by Beverly.
Characters
Natsu Dragneel (Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara)
A member of Fairy Tail, Natsu is a Mage who uses Dragon Slayer Magic, with his most mastered element being fire. During childhood, he was raised by his father Igneel, who was a powerful dragon also known as “The Fire Dragon King.” Though he is certainly hot-headed, it also translates into passion for the happiness and wellbeing of his friends, family, and allies. His partner is Happy. After years of searching, Natsu finally succeeded in reuniting with Igneel, but it ended up an incredibly painful experience after Igneel died. Afterward, Natsu swore to become even more powerful.
Lucy Heartfilia (Voiced by: Aya Hirano)
A member of Fairy Tail, Lucy is a Mage who practices Celestial Spirit Magic, which allows her to summon Celestial Spirits from the Celestial Spirit World by using their Keys to unlock their Gates. She also makes contracts with them so that she can use on them the agreed terms. She loves Celestial Spirits and possesses a surprising amount of Keys. Her dream is to become a writer, which became somewhat true after the dissolution of Fairy Tail. However, while she was working as one, she also tried to track down her friends’ whereabouts.
Happy (Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya)
A member of Fairy Tail, Happy is a Mage who uses a magic called Aera, which allows him to fly in the air with magnificent wings. Originally from Edolas, he’s an Exceed who is also Natsu’s partner. He really loves fish.
Gray Fullbuster (Voiced by: Yuichi Nakamura)
A member of Fairy Tail, Gray is a Mage who uses a magic called Ice-Make, which allows him to manipulate water in different forms as weapons. He has a strange and worrisome habit of discarding most of his clothes, but despite that quirk, he’s actually top rated in his guild. Despite him and Natsu clashing as though they were cats and dogs, they also respect each other as rivals. After the death of his father, who was a member of Tartaros, Gray was gifted Ice Devil Slayer Magic. Now, he’s determined to bring an end to E.N.D.
Erza Scarlet (Voiced by: Sayaka Ohara)
A member of Fairy Tail, Erza is a Mage with masterful control over a magic called Requip: The Knight, which allows her to instantly summon her large stockpile of weapons, armor, and clothes at will. Not only is she known for wearing armor, but she’s also regarded as the strongest woman in Fairy Tail as a S-Class Mage, and is also known by the name Titania. During childhood, long before she became a member of Fairy Tail, she was enslaved alongside Jellal (a.k.a. Mystogan) and forced to help build the Tower of Heaven. Her nickname “Scarlet” was gifted by him thanks to her striking hair color.
Wendy Marvell (Voiced by: Satomi Satou)
A member of Fairy Tail, Wendy is a Mage who uses Sky Dragon Slayer Magic. She was once a member of Cat Shelter, but after the incident with Nirvana, she joined Fairy Tail alongside her partner Carla. Her offensive and defensive capabilities can be bolstered if she uses the spell Re-Raise. She’s also quite talented at healing spells. She’s on good terms with Sherria Blendy, who competed in the annual Grand Magic Game.
Carla (Voiced by: Yui Horie)
A member of Fairy Tail, Carla is a Mage who also uses the magic called Aera, which allows her to fly in the air with magnificent wings. Aside from using the same magic as Happy, she also speaks with about the same dialect. She is always at Wendy’s side and has tasked herself with being her protector and guardian. Carla also has a rare ability called Precognition, which grants her knowledge into things that will happen in the future. She’s quite fond of both fish and darjeeling tea.
