Synopsis

Nemeses have fallen from the skies and overrun the world. Those who came into contact with these monsters either died or became a part of a lucky group of survivors, and of these survivors is Seth. These survivors are able to wield magic as wizards and witches, and Seth dedicates his powers to stopping not only nemeses, but also finding and destroying their nest: Radiant.

Background

Based on a French manga written and illustrated by Tony Valente, the Japanese anime adaptation of Radiant was announced in January 2018 for a fall 2018 release and will begin airing on Oct. 6 with 21 episodes announced.

The series is being animated by Lerche, a team within Studio Hibari known for recent works like *Assassination Classroom and Kino’s Journey. It’s being directed by Seiji Kishi and Daisei Fukuoka with screenplay by Makoto Uezu and character designs by Nozomi Kawano, and music by Masato Koda. The opening theme is “Utopia” by 04 Limited Sazabys, and the ending theme is “Radiant” by Polkadot Stingray.

Characters

Seth (Voiced by: Yumiri Hanamori)

Despite having learned magic by just watching, Seth aims to be an incredible wizard by working on his skills every day. He is clumsy and makes many mistakes but continues to be cheerful with incredible belief in himself. He grew horns after coming into contact with Nemeses, and his trademark skill is his Titan Punch.

Mélie (Voiced by: Aoi Yuuki)

Serving Artemis Academy as an ambush hunter, Mélie is a witch with eye-catching red hair and a kind heart. She’s relatively calm and maybe a bit air-headed sometimes, but when her curse is activated, something really scary happens… She also specializes in protection magic and wants a friend!

Doc (Voiced by: Shintaro Ohata)

A researcher at Artemis Academy. He was infected by Nemeses like Seth but chose to not study magic. He is as cowardly as one can get and tries desperately to stay away from danger, but he always seems to get pulled into things...

Alma (Voiced by: Romi Park)

A veteran witch and Seth’s foster mom. She is a tracking hunter who lives in an airship for observing Nemeses with Seth. She does not believe that those who have come into contact with Nemeses and those who haven’t can understand each other. She is quick to anger but cares deeply for Seth.

Mister Bobley (Voiced by: Makoto Koichi)

A cute creature who is kind of a friend to Mélie.

Dragunov (Voiced by Koji Yusa)

A dangerous commanding officer who controls magic users and questions heretics. He seems easy-going at first, but he has a sense of justice that runs extremely deep and is extremely talented at his job.

Grim (Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu)

A mysterious figure who is completely clad in bandages and goes by the name of Grim.

Master Lord Majesty (Kappei Yamaguchi)

The founder of the academy in the skycity of Artemis where magic users gather. At first glance, he appears to be a cute yellow cat, but he is unrestrained, brilliant, and frequently abuses the people of Artemis.
