Synopsis
Ever since he was little, Makoto has possessed a strange ability - he can read the memories of the objects he has touched. Keeping his powers a secret, Makoto now works as a special agent with the police force. When he’s sent to investigate the crime scene of an explosion at a laboratory where research into a mysterious substance known as XM was being conducted, Makoto discovers a strange memory embedded in the ring of a young woman, Sarah, who is the accident’s sole survivor. The memory is of a person being swallowed by a red light and disappearing. Makoto suddenly finds himself at the center of a vast conspiracy as he tries to ensure the secrets of XM remain in the right hands…
Background
Ingress is inspired by the augmented reality smartphone game produced by Niantic. The anime adaptation was announced at the “Plus Ultra - Fuji TV Anime Lineup Presentation 2018” in March 2018 and will premiere as part of Fuji TV’s +Ultra programming block in October 2018. The series will also be streamed worldwide by Netflix.
Characters
Makoto (Voiced by: Yoshiki Nakajima)
Makoto is a special investigator with the police force and has the ability to read the memories of objects he touches with his right hand. Meeting Sarah during his investigation of the laboratory incident, he begins to become aware of the existence of XM and its relationship to his mysterious abilities.
Sarah (Voiced by: Reina Ueda)
Sarah was an employee at Hulong Laboratory researching the mysterious substance known as XM. The only survivor of the explosion, she has lost all her memories. Meeting Makoto during the investigation, she is now being hunted by Jack.
Jack (Voiced by: Shigeo Kiyama)
A former mercenary, Jack is now an agent and is stalking Sarah for unknown reasons. He has a mysterious ability known as “Flashforward” which allows him to predict events in the immediate future.
Hank Johnson (Voiced by: Hiro Sasaki)
Hank Johnson is a former US special operations officer. He is currently working as an archeologist conducting research into “power spots” which allow connection to XM portals.
Artificial Intelligence ADA (Voiced by: Megumi Ogata)
ADA (A Detection Algorithm) is an artificial intelligence created by Niantic researchers to assist in their research which has now become sentient thanks to exposure to XM.
