Synopsis
Momo Minamoto was just a regular high school girl in Sorasaki, but her everyday life is changed forever when she is scouted by private intelligence agency Tsukikage. Tsukikage is an international spy organization which works in the interests of justice to protect peace. Taking a strange drug known of “Spyce” which enhances their powers, Tsukikage’s teenage female agents undergo secret training to turn their bodies into weapons. Momo’s schoolmate Yuki Hanzomon assists her in her journey from regular nobody to super spy under Tsukikage’s mentor/pupil training model while the city is threatened by criminal organization Moryo. In order to protect her friends, family, and the city in which she lives, Momo stands together with her new allies to oppose evil!
Background
Release the Spyce is an original anime project created by Namori and Takahiro for ASCII Media Works with animation by Lay-duce. The anime was announced in the March 2018 issue of Dengeki G’s Comic and has already received a manga adaptation with artwork by Meia Mitsuki as well as a serial novel adaptation titled Release the Spyce: Golden Genesis. The TV anime is set to premiere on Oct. 6, 2018.
The series’ opening theme, "Supatto! Spy & Spice,” and ending theme, “Hide & Seek,” will be performed by voice actresses Yukari Anzai, Manami Numakura, Aya Suzaki, Akane Fujita, Aya Uchida, and Yuri Noguchi as their respective characters under the band name Tsukikage.
Characters
Momo Minamoto (Voiced by: Yukari Anzai)
Momo Minamoto is a second-year high school student living an ordinary life in Sorasaki until she is recruited by international spy organization Tsukikage. She idolizes her schoolmate and mentor, Yuki Hanzomon, and has a strange power which enables her to gauge the physical health of anyone she licks. Momo is a pretty cheerful person on the whole.
Yuki Hanzomon (Voiced by: Manami Numakura)
Yuki Hanzomon is a third-year high school student and Momo’s mentor. She posses an extremely high level of spycraft and is hard both on herself and on others. She takes things too seriously and has a tendency to overdo it.
Mei Yachiyo (Voiced by: Aya Suzaki)
Mei Yachiyo is a second-year high school student and classmate of Momo and Goe’s. She is the Tsukikage mentor of Fu Sagami and a laidback type who likes to do things at her own pace. Mei particularly likes old spy movies.
Goe Ishikawa (Voiced by: Yuri Noguchi)
Goe Ishikawa is a second-year high school student and a classmate of Momo and Mei’s. Her Tsukikage mentor is Hatsume Aoba. She may look tough but has a fondness for animals and cuddly toys.
Hatsume Aoba (Voiced by: Aya Uchida)
Hatsume Aoba is a third-year high school student and classmate of Yuki’s. She’s also the Tsukikage mentor of Goe Ishikawa and is happy to lend a hand to various other people in the name of friendship. Hatsume is the inventor of many secret devices.
Fu Sagami (Voiced by: Akane Fujita)
Fu Sagami is a strong-willed first-year high school student who ran away from a poor home and has become a spy with Tsukikage. Her mentor is Mei Yachiyo who is also her current roommate.
Kamari
Kamari is a frog who works for Tsukikage. His small size makes him perfect for infiltration and wiretapping missions.
Monomi
Monomi is an owl who works for Tsukikage and can assist his master from the air. He is generally very sleepy.
Buncho no Onna (Voiced by: Shizuka Ito)
Buncho no Onna is the boss of evil criminal organization Moryo. She is a figure wrapped up in mystery and has a tiny pet bird that she dotes on.
Theresia (Voiced by: Risa Taneda)
A striking woman with silver hair and blue eyes, Theresia is Buncho no Onna’s second in command at the evil criminal organization Moryo.
Byakko (Voiced by: Aina Suzuki)
Byakko is an unusually strong little girl working for Moryo.
Dolte (Voiced by: Saori Hayami)
Dolte is a narcissistic mercenary working for Moryo.
