Synopsis
The history and unforgettable characters of Sengoku Basara are placed in a modern Japanese high school for Gakuen Basara! The territorial wars are replaced by club conflicts and fights over becoming student council president. Prepare yourself for a modern and fun Basara spin-off!
Background
Based on the manga of the same name, the anime adaptation of Gakuen Basara is directed by Minoru Ohara with animation by Brain’s Base and places the Sengoku Basara characters in a modern Japanese school setting. The series will begin airing on October 4, 2018, and the opening theme is “Hokore Kitakaki Utsukushiki, Ikizama o" by EIGHT OF TRIANGLE.
Characters
Date Masamune (Voiced by: Kazuya Nakai)
Captain and ace of the baseball team, Date battles every day with Sanada Yukimura over the right to use the school grounds.
Sanada Yukimura (Voiced by: Souichiro Hoshi)
The hot-blooded ace striker of the soccer team. He’s Date Masamune’s rival, and he has enormous respect for their teacher, Takeda Shingen.
Takenaka Shigeharu (Voiced by: Akira Ishida)
A close friend of Toyotomi’s. Takenaka uses his intellect to grant Toyotomi’s wishes, but like Toyotomi, his whereabouts are currently unknown. (He’s suspended from school.)
Tsuruhime (Voiced by: Ami Koshimizu)
A popular and charismatic student and fortune teller. She has secret feelings towards Fuuma Kotarou.
Azai Nagamasa (Voiced by: Kouji Tsujitani)
Azai patrols the school every day in order to ensure that order is maintained as a member of the public morals committee. He’s engaged to Oichi.
Oichi (Voiced by: Mamiko Noto)
A young girl who supports the public morals committee member Nagamasa. She is also the younger sister of Nobunaga.
Maeda Keiji (Voiced by: Masakazu Morita)
A traveler who just returned to school after going on a break from school and going on a trip. He is taken at first sight with the teacher Magoichi.
Kasuga (Voiced by: Natsuko Kuwatani)
A young girl with feelings towards Uesugi Kenshin. These feelings continue to blossom.
Oda Nobunaga (Voiced by: Norio Wakamoto)
The head of the school who rules it with absolute power. He also rules over Honnouji Academy and has strange policies.
Uesugi Kenshin (Voiced by: Romi Park)
A teacher in charge of fine arts. He’s also the advisor for the rhythmic sports gymnastics club. He has a strong sense of aesthetics and loves beautiful things, and there’s a rumor that he went through a lot with Takeda when the two were in school together.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Voiced by: Ryotaro Okiayu)
A former student council president. His heavy-handed way of operating resulted in him being removed from his position, and he is currently missing. (He is suspended from school.)
Chosokabe Motochika (Voiced by: Ryuuzou Ishino)
The leader of the school’s delinquents. He’s well-loved by his younger brother and fights constantly with Mouri Motonari.
Saika Magoichi (Voiced by: Sayaka Ohara)
The physics teacher. She throws chalk at students who don’t pay attention and has known Motochika for a long time.
Mouri Motonari (Voiced by: Shigeru Nakahara)
The head of the school’s wind instrument club who pursues perfect performances. He’s cool-headed but he throws CDs at people who mess up in their performances.
Akechi Mitsuhide (Voiced by: Sho Hayami)
A strange doctor who enjoys the sight of blood. It’s painful to endure his examinations, but he’s apparently good at what he does.
Sarutobi Sasuke (Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu)
A member of both the soccer team and the newspaper club, Sarutobi is the most informed student at the school.
Takeda Shingen (Voiced by: Tessho Genda)
A teacher in charge of physical education and the advisor for the soccer club. He’s very close with Yukimura.
Maeda Toshiie (Voiced by: Tomohiro Tsuboi)
Matsu’s boyfriend, and the pair are a very famous couple within the school. The two train and eat bento lunches together.
Ishida Mitsunari (Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki)
The ex-student council president, Mitsunari has hatred towards his former friend Tokugawa and a rivalry towards him after Tokugawa causes him to lose his position.
Tokugawa Ieyasu (Voiced by: Toshiki Masuda)
Tokugawa guides a recall on the student council president which leads to his former friend Mitsunari losing his position as president. He then announces his candidacy for the position.
Katakura Kojuro (Voiced by: Toshiyuki Morikawa)
The catcher for the baseball team who cheers on Masamune. He’s strong and chivalrous, and he also loves growing vegetables.
Matsu (Voiced by: Yuko Kaida)
Toshiie’s sweetheart. She cooks lunch for him every day.
Fuuma Kotarou
A mysterious and utterly silent student at the academy. As a member of the school’s newspaper, he lurks in the shadows and collects secrets.
Honda Tadakatsu
The school’s strongest student. He has known Ieyasu since the two were young, and he works hard to help make him the student council president.
Yumekichi
A courageous and brave monkey who’s often by Keiji’s side.
