Web Novel
Re:Zero started started out as a web novel published on the Japanese user-generated content site Shōsetsuka ni Narō. It was written by Tappei Nagatsuki, under the username 鼠色猫 (pronounced Nezumi-iro Neko, meaning mouse-coloured cat). The first chapter was published on April 20, 2012. Since then, over 400 chapters have been published, spanning over 6 ‘arcs’.
Light Novel
In 2014, the series was licensed for print publication by Media Factory, who published the series under their MF Bunko J label. These volumes include illustrations by Shinichirou Otsuka. There have also been Re:Zero side story novels and short story collections published under the same label.
