Ricardo Welkin is the leader of the Iron Fangs mercenary group and is a member of the Anastasia Camp. He is a large, muscular anthropomorphic wolf with brown fur, a long brown tail, turquoise eyes, dark brown beard, as well as long dark brown hair. Ricardo wears long black pants tied with a red cord, a leather shoulder guard decorated with the symbol of the Hoshin Trading Company, a black strap across his body, and black arm guards with bandages beneath them. He has a prosthetic hook in the place of the arm he lost during his fight with Roy Alphard in Priestella during Arc 5. Ricardo is friendly, relaxed, and boisterous and talks loudly with a kansai dialect. He has been known to joke around just before a battle which he does to reduce tension and ease the nerves of his teammates.
History
In his former life Ricardo was a slave. One day he saved a young Anastasia from slave traders and even secured a job for her as a waitress. She pledged to remove his collar and was able to eventually buy his freedom. He in turn pledges his gratitude to Anastasia and stayed by her side during her meteoric rise to the top of the mercantile world from absolutely nothing.
While Ricardo starts out as a bodyguard he eventually finds himself as the leader of the Iron Fangs mercenary group - one comprised of primarily beast humans. He stood ready as Anastasia entered the Royal Selection and answered the call to lead the assault on her behalf during the hunt for the White Whale. Despite being injured in the fight he actually continues on to aid in attacking the Witch Cult and Petelgeuse after being healed by Felix.
Ricardo is next seen in Priestella when Anastasia gathers all of the Royal Candidates which so happens to coincide with an attack on the city by numerous Sin Archbishops. He unfortunately loses an arm while fighting Roy and from then on wields in a prosthetic hook in its place.
Relationships
Anastasia Hoshin - Ricardo and Anastasia have been close friends for over 10 years, after they helped each other escape slavery. He leads Anastasia’s personal demi-human mercenary group, the Iron Fangs.
Julius Juukulius - Julius shows respect towards Ricardo as a friend and comrade, despite the class difference between them. Ricardo worked hard to encourage Julius when he was doubting himself during the events of arc 5. Ricardo sacrificed his arm to protect Julius during their fight with Roy Alphard.
Mimi, Tivey, and Hetaro Pearlbaton - Ricardo acts as a father figure for them, adopting them after they were abandoned by their parents. Ricardo cares deeply for them, going so far as to disobey Anastasia’s orders by searching for Mimi on his own when she went missing.
Garfiel Tinsel - Ricardo was suspicious of Garfiel at first, but soon warmed up to him after Garfiel saved Mimi from death.
Natsuki Subaru - Ricardo got along well with Subaru during their battle with the White Whale, with Ricardo protecting Subaru by taking a hit from the Hakugei in his place, as well as giving Subaru advice that allowed him to defeat the beast.
Otto Suwen - Ricardo helped to ease Otto’s nerves and gave him the motivation to not give up while he was being held captive during Arc 3.
Reisel - Ricardo and Reisel helped each other while they were both in a slave prison. However, Reisel organised a slave rebellion but did not include Ricardo, leading to Reisel escaping the prison and Ricardo being left behind to be punished by the slavers. Reisel later apologised to Ricardo for this, but then betrayed him again soon after.
Abilities
Demi-Human Senses - Ricardo has increased senses of hearing and smell, and has a much better sense of sight compared to humans.
Resonance Wave - Ricardo is capable of releasing a destructive beam of mana from his mouth. This ability places a great burden on him, and if overused can cause him to vomit blood and develop large cuts around his mouth.
Ricardo's weapon of choice is a hatchet-shaped greatsword. He rides a large grey liger into battle for its incredible agility and endurance.
