Rem is a maid in the Mathers mansion along with her twin sister Ram. She is an oni with light blue eyes and medium length sky blue hair that normally covers her right eye. Her hair is adorned with a maid headband along with hair clips and a flower-shaped ribbon on the left side. She typically wears a maid uniform and tends to speak in a polite and subservient manner as expected of one in service of nobility.
History
Rem and her sister Ram were born in an Oni village. As twins, they each only possessed one horn as opposed to the two that most other Oni have. According to tradition, they were to be killed to protect the pride of the tribe and race. However before the killing blow could be struck, her elder sister Ram displayed a large burst of power which shocked the village and stayed the execution. As the twins grew so too did Ram's powers and she was viewed as a prodigy only seen once in a millennia among Oni kind.
This cast a large shadow over Rem that she struggled to find her place in. She was not as adept at magic nor as powerful as her sister and struggled for a time to push herself to at least meet the level displayed by her sister. She was plagued and motivated by thoughts of how different life would be if she was not born, specifically what Ram's life would be like if she wasn't a twin, had both horns, and the power that she may possess from that extra horn. However as time passed Rem came to the realization that she would not bridge the gulf in talent with her sister and found her own semblance of peace of mind.
All of this changed one night six years before the story begins as she awoke to find her village under attack by the Witch Cult. Everyone in the village was murdered except for her and Ram who lost her horn. Both girls were taken in by Roswaal and trained as maids for his manor where they both lived until Subaru arrives in their lives. By the end of the events in Arc 2, she finds herself in love with Subaru after he saves her life. She ends up putting her life on the line for him multiple times in battle across multiple timelines but eventually falls prey to Ley Batenkaitos at the end of Arc 3. She had both her name and memories eaten by his Authority and is placed into a state of stasis.
Relationships
Ram - Rem admires and loves her elder sister Ram. They had a caring and loving relationship growing up despite the pressure that Rem placed on herself. In the moment that Ram lost her horn in the attack on the Oni village, Rem found herself glad that she may finally find a way out of her sister's shadow as the loss of her horn would mean a great loss of power. However, as the moment passed she was immediately crushed by feelings of guilt for that impulse. In their years at the manor, Rem constantly pushed herself to excel the way she imagined her sister would if she was still at full power.
Roswaal L. Mathers - Roswaal took in the sisters after the massacre of their Oni tribe. Rem was always deferential to his wishes and did her best to act as the perfect maid (though the motivation was strongly tied to her sister). He was extremely outraged when she died in a timeline where Natsuki avoided a death curse.
Natsuki Subaru - Over the first few days that Subaru spent at the Mathers manor, Rem found herself growing closer to Subaru. Even after he solved the mystery of his own death Subaru insisted on chasing the threat into the woods to save the children and Rem decided to follow and assist him. They saved the children and survived the night but Subaru was once more cursed for death. Rem felt responsible and went back into the forest alone to kill the Demon Beasts who cast the curse and hopefully save him. After barely surviving that encounter, a badly hurt Subaru implored Rem to stop thinking of herself as an inferior version of the impossibly perfect Ram she has in her memories. From that point on Rem fully falls in love with Subary and dedicates herself to him.
Oni Village - The village that Rem grew up in mostly treated her with disdain, but her father Quark and mother Temae both cared deeply for her and tried to be supportive of her.
Abilities
Magic - Rem is skilled at Water magic and is capable of using to both attack and heal. She is able to use Huma, El Huma, Ul Huma, and Al Huma.
Synesthesia - Both Rem and her sister share this ability and are able to sense each other's feelings through it.
Oni Bloodline - Rem can enter her Oni Form, manifesting a single white horn that increases her physical prowess and acts gathers mana from the atmosphere, acting as a gate.
Skilled Maid - As part of her drive to live up to the perfect version of her elder sister Ram she drove herself to be the best maid she could be to the point that she handled 80% of the workload in the mansion on her own.
In addition to her repertoire of skills and abilities, she also wields a morning star on a chain that she seems to be able to materialize at will.
